Hello, I am going to give you my complete opinion on this matter and it may take a bit of time. First of all the logistics of what you are asking. Say we decide to refund everyone who gets scammed. In the event that occurs everyone who has ever been scammed will expect their refunds to also go through. We would need a seperate forum thread of requesting refunds. Then we would need staff members with the ability to do refunds. That begs the question of who do you trust not to abuse the command required to do this? The command would have to either take money out of the scammers account and into another players or it would have to just literally spawn money. I am not saying that GameAdmin, SuperMods, or Moderators would necessarily abuse these types of commands, but, what if they did? What if, not saying they would, a SuperMod decided one day they wanted to just go crazy on the server. They then do whatever command required (seeing as you didn't suggest one I will make one up) and I'll use myself as an example: In the case we go with spawning money: /refund Revanrose6 $5,000,000 Suddenly I have $5,000,000. Ofc you could be more subtle about that and do it less frequently, thus being less likely to be traced. /refund Revanrose6 $5,000. Do that every hour or so and you have free money. Next, assuming we instead go with taking money out of another players account: /refund Andrewkm Revanrose6 $5,000 (This would take 5k out of Andrewkm's balance and into mine) You could do the same thing a lot of the time and players may never notice and if they do, it may be ignored because money doesn't just disappear. Only 2 staff members don't have a financial goal left on ECC, Andrewkm and Wewinagain. Both of them are the only people who could handle these types of issues logically because they have no reason to randomly steal money from a player. This brings up the next issue: Andrewkm and WeWinAgain are both very busy people. AndrewKm has to handle donations, look for new ways to improve the server, deal with any issues staff cannot handle etc. He also has a real life. He doesn't spend his entire life dealing with ECC and thus we need to consider that he doesn't have infinite time. WeWinAgain, is also a busy guy. He has to deal with all town applications, anything staff ask him, and a lot of other things. So you are asking that AndrewKM and WeWinAgain go back through every complaint/scam ever on ECC and refund every drop of money. If we go with the money spawning plan then the person who scammed the money gets to keep it, but, if you go with the taking money out of another person's balance then you have to ask what happens if they don't have the money? Or if they put it in a sign? Does that players balance drop below zero? These are all questions I expect need to be answered before the server could even consider going forward with the idea. This would be amazing, but not very possible. Unless you got another ServerAdmin, this isn't very likely. I want to support this because I, myself, was scammed 180k, but this would take lots of time, and WeWin and Andrew don't have that time.
when someon gets perma banned with no appeal the players who got scammed should recieve their fair share, and then whatever is left.
This suggestion has pros an cons. Pros: This really would be great. I work very hard on this server and I often get scammed. On this server I have new scammed around $300,000. Now, my only source of income is farming. I don't play lotto and such like some people. Making 7.5k/hr this money took me 40 hours to make, or roughly a month. This comes as a huge sadness to me when an entire month of my hard work is wiped out. I know many other users work so hard for their money and have the same thing happen. Cons: As this would be a very powerful command (The ability to spawn in money or take from other players) it would probably only belong to Andrewkm or wewinagain. This would take them time (prob at least 10 mins a day). While this would be great if it was implemented it only could be if Andrew was willing or had the time to spend a lot of time and hard work refunding the scammed users of ECC.
Well I wish to argue the point that we do have this sort of system in place. If you are scammed and we ban the person we tend to add it into their appeal that they have to refund the person the amount or item they stole. This is not a fool proof system but it also offers some chance of appeal and reform as I notice most people who scam tend to lose most of the money to lotto and such stuff before the ban comes along. This way they have some means of making it right and gaining parole.
Greetings, I am confused as to where the refunded money would come from. If it is coming from the scammer, and they spent it all in lottery, does that mean the person who won that lottery loses that money? Obviously you can imagine the outcry that would raise. If it is to be spawned in. Can you imagine the number of ways this would INCREASE scams? Infact two people might coerce a scam just to get extra money into the economy quickly. Exaggerated example: Person1: Yeah I was scammed 5 million dollars from Person2. Person2 gets banned and Person1 gets 2.5 million eccodollars. Person2 appeals and says:I'll pay Person1 back the full amount if I get unbanned. Person2 pays Person1 the money back and Person1 keeps 1.5 million from his "refunded money" and gives Person2 a 1 million dollar bonus for his part. You can mention: Well the scammer has to pay ECC and not the player. Now you are saying that staff have to monitor who has paid and who hasn't and set time limits to pay back, and then be able to deduct directly from their balance and be honest about it, and etc... This would do nothing to deter scammers and make people less cautious as they are getting 1/2 back no matter what. I understand the sentiment, but there are just too many things that could be abused. I do not think it would be a good idea.
The money would come from the users balance I believe. Correct me if I'm wrong but if they spent the money on lotto the money can still be taken and they'll have a negative balance.
I'd like ecc to refund most if not all money from the scammer's balance. Sometimes they are permanently banned and well.... after a couple of weeks.... their stats are deleted along with the money...... AKA Your scammed money is lost
