Minecraft Name: TMgrinder Suggestion: Stop locking necro'd threads Reason: It does not bother me to visit a recently necro'd thread if someone is contributing to the discussion (useful contribution is better, but useless is acceptable). I do not find it useful to visit a recently-posted-in thread only to see "Please don't necro - locked" messages. Any Other Information: I think that if this is to be a forum where people can communicate ideas and discuss things, we should not need to create a new thread on the same topic in order to avoid the necro-locks. Doing so boosts the overall thread-count (maybe that's the goal) but it fragments the discussion i.m.o. If locking must continue, I suggest it be done without a notice message - at least that way it wouldn't bump the message yet again. Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?: no Have a good day.
If a thread is relevant, it shouldn't be locked for necroing. If a thread isn't relevant, it shouldn't be remade.
True but I think the issue is that staff often overlook the relevancy of the topic or the comment and base their decisions solely on the timestamps. Since there's no objective way to measure relevancy, the best way to approach it is to not lock necro'd threads at all. +1
with reason. Say someone necro's on a three year old general discussion thread about the old phpbb forums saying 'lololol i remember this'. I think it's fair to claim the discussion isn't relevant anymore. There's no objective way to measure harassment or trolling either, but i don't think anyone would agree that the best approach would be to avoid punishing it.
+1 Why even lock for necroing unless someone asked a question three years ago and you answered it with something like "lolol i remember that"?
I feel our staff has done a fine job of handling this issue. Any rule that helps keep trolling to a minimum here is welcome to me.
Ah, I do definitely think the definition of what it is to "necro" a thread is too strict. It's a slow board and people take breaks from the server sometimes. Most threads just 30 days old or so that aren't obviously irrelevant can be quite relevant to some.
