I suggest removing the 'wait 3 days to reapply' thing on staff apps if the user made a genuine mistake, for example on @Smeefy's app, he posted before the new app came out which was not done to troll etc. The 3 day wait should only be enforced if a user is intentionally trolling the system.
+1, this round I was so eager to apply, that I applied as soon as I woke up, earlier than the new format came out. I was very disappointed in myself, and while I understand that new formats can not be replaced right away, I would have loved some warning that there were going to be new ones. Thank you Taylor for this suggestion.
The heads up was in a news announcement, quoted below: I feel like we still need to let it at 3 days since users should know the app format does change before applying.
@7amoodw users should know, but why make them wait to apply when they made a genuine mistake. Even people filing ban appeals aren't told to wait for 3 days before trying again. The most I made someone wait was 24 hours and I haven't seen anyone been made to wait longer than that- and that's after at least 2-3 poorly written/trolly appeals. So why make someone who wants to make a positive impact to the server wait for 3 days to reapply when really all they did wrong was use the wrong app? I am all for it when they troll the forum, but simply using the old format is not trolling (so long as it is done honestly) and I don't think people should be punished for this. Even just let them edit their main post with the new app, instead of locking it.
If they can't follow instructions, they deserve to wait. Even if it was a mistake, this serves as a deterrent from making that mistake. Anyway, as far as troll applications go, if a user is trolling the system, they honestly should be banned from applying for the round.
You're not understanding @UnitedStates2. People make mistakes and by making them wait may act as a detterent but why should we deter someone who is eager to help the server? It's ridiculous. As I said before, going by the detterence logic- surely this should be enforced on ban appeals on people who have actually done wrong?
It doesn't matter to you but to people who want to apply and actually want to help it does- hence my suggestion. Before speaking for the community, maybe check your facts first? Thanks.
Staff are picked over a 3 month period what is 3 days going to do. Nothing. Personally I think if you cannot follow simple rules when applying for staff you should be thankful it is only 3 days not the entire round.
People make mistakes and are caught out like smeefy was. Why should they be banned from applying for something they want to do? As I stated people who don't do ban appeals properly don't even have to wait 3 days
They are not banned from applying for something they want to do they are simply put on a 3 day wait period.
But there needs to be some consequence for making mistakes otherwise one would never learn from them.
3 Days is appropriate in my opinion, it includes time for a user to learn from a mistake and ensure it won't happen again and gives time for a user to fill out a new application using the new format. Sure some users might be able to make an application within an hour or so but it's completely your fault for not reading a news announcement, you're expected to keep up with server events, hence why some users got warned for swearing when we reverted back to our old rules. Sure there's a difference between swearing and using an incorrect format, but you should still keep up to date with what happens.
3 days because you forgot to check a news post? It's silly. You seem to be forgetting that the people who are applying want to help the server. They don't want to be put off because they forgot to check a post.
Personally a staff member should be vigilant and aware of changes. If they are doing things wrong when just applying for staff, it kinda doesn't set a good example of what they will do when they get on staff. At least with it being a mistake in their staff app, it only reflects on them, but let's say they get on staff and make a mistake that effects someone else and we lose a few good players because of it. Staff members represent the server and need to double check and get everything in order before acting. I think the 3 day wait is appropriate and maybe they will be careful next time. Not true. The new format was edited: "Last edited by a moderator: Today at 12:04 AM" <--- in EST timezone You posted your app: "Smeefy, Today at 8:24 AM" <--- in EST timezone The new format was out for 8 hours and 20 mins. I love you both Taylor and Smeefy, please don't take offense to this. -1
