Minecraft Name: Berserk_on_xbl Suggestion: People should really stop replying to suggestion threads with only "-1" "+1" and quotes. Reason: If you cant give an explanation or use someone else's, nobody should take your post seriously. If you cant reply with an educated response, then please don't, your argument will literally be invalid.
+1 means they like or agree to the suggestion -1 means they don't like or agree to the suggestion Some times suggestions have a obvious + or -1 and some need to be more detailed
I disagree. At least for +1's. Sometimes, it is incredibly illogical to do any more writing than that. In a good, well written suggestion, all you need is a +1. Any more writing besides that would be simply regurgitation of what was already said.
But thats the issue. Someone could put alot of work into an amazing suggestion just to have 10 people say +1, at least explain why you like the idea and if theres anything else you could add on or take off. Theres always something new to add to the conversation, you just have to think.
If they put a lot of work into a suggestion, all they care about is the end result; it being accepted. It's the same thing with staff applications. People put hours into their applications, making sure everything is perfect so they can write a complete reflection of themselves. Giving feedback is appreciated, of course. However, a +1 or -1 is also useful, because it gets ones general feeling across. Also, I came up for a reason why -1's are also useful. Sometimes people make very illogical suggestions such as "let's increase the price of melons to $2" or "add hasteII". People like to comment on suggestions, but if they'll never happen, they don't need to explain why.
Just quoting other people is something i mentioned too lol. You should still do the thread justice and explain why its a bad idea, the creator of the thread might of though it was a good idea, so why not explain why it would be bad? When it comes to staff applications, comments are about the worst thing that could happen. I have seen many flame wars pop up in staff apps for no reason, and when it comes to chosing staff, +1's and -1's are never taken into account. Its all about how the staff feels they would do as a part of the team, its not a popularity game. Most people who post in staff apps are friends of the user and dont bother to read their app anyways. I dont believe this is true, when I make a suggestion I want people to post their thoughts an ideas too, I always post in my own threads replying to peoples added on ideas and stating my opinions on those, or even building upon them and adding them to the main post.
Quote #1: People are allowed to agree with others. Quoting them is fine, if you word for word agree with them. Again, literally repeating what someone already said is pointless. Quote #2: By that logic, I have to comment on every suggestion, no matter the level of stupid. I have the right to chose not to comment much on a suggestion. Who are you to say I have to. Quite #3: Did I ever say they were taken into account by anyone else other than the original poster? I did not. My point, if you understood correctly, was it's only beneficial for the poster. People who post things with an end goal post them to have that goal met. Comments are beneficial feedback to reach it, for the poster. Quote #4: Why would you write a suggestion just to see the comments? That is not the purpose of a suggestion, and what you said makes no sense. If you enjoy comments on your post, make a suggestion for a forum called "[Suggestions] - I don't care if it's approved, I just like the comments "
1. Quoting someone and saying "this" is literally repeating what someone has already said, so yet it is pointless. 2. I did not say that you have to comment on every suggestion. If you have already taken the time to read a stupid suggestion you might as well lay it to rest with a response that would take 5 seconds to type because you dont even have to think about what you need to say 3. For staff apps its beneficial to the poster, for suggestions that could make a change to the server everything is beneficial to whether it is implemented or not (unless its a flame or +-1) I dont see comments as a means for the poster to get their idea implemented, I see it as a way to have everyone get their opinions and ideas/good or bad, seen as well. 4. I enjoy comments on my posts, yes, as long as its relevant and constructive, i like for there being purpose to the thread. Like this thread is to get people to make more constuctive posts, like you are, because all opinions are getting thrown out there not just a -1.
I always felt suggestions to be a place for open discussion between people, so I do not think there should be any specific rule set other than the server rules.
When you vote in elections or similar, you aren't obligated to explain your reasoning behind your votes etc, and I see no reason why this is different. Sometimes suggestions are just 'obvious' and don't need an explanation. From the point of view of the administration, having a thread filled with support with one or two reasoned posts is better than just 1 or 2 reasoned posts. If people feel the need to explain, they will do.
