Suggestion:I suggest repealing or modifying the 3-5 minute advertisement wait.

Reason:On peak-time we are seeing as many as 350 users online at a time so
I understand that there will be many advertisements and what appears to be chat spam, but
this negatively impacts those who are looking to get their message heard. For example
a wealthy investor may wish to invest in a certain tool, but they may have missed the message
posted just a few seconds ago and they won't see the message.
Any Other Information:Farms and traders will lose profits and people can just
    ignore the advertisement.

ALSO it would be fine at 30 second intervals or once per chat list

What is your suggestion exactly? To get rid of the new rule? I can already tell you the 30 second thing will most likely not happen.

I personally begin to ignore spammy messages, and pay more attention to the unique, non-spammed messages.

    Exactly!
sorry this suggestion was slightly hard to understand.. but the point is if you don't like the ad just ignore it :D
also 30 seconds-1 minute is fair because 3-5 minutes is like completely stopping your ad

I am sorry, but I do not agree with this.

Moderating on a server with about 300 users on at times and having those users be able to spam due to macro's becomes very hard for all of us to read. Imagine having to read all messages coming through at times, and making sure they appropriate, especially during times where we have 300 or so users on. It would be near impossible to read everything.
    The current timing/rule is perfect.

I agree this, but, 2 minutes is plenty of time. 30 seconds-1 minute is far too fast. 2 minutes.

No. Have you ever seen how trade chat was? It was blocking out every other form of chat. It was spamming everything. The first thing new players would see is people competing without regulation for whose ad gets to be seen. Trade chat was getting out of hand with everyone installing macros. This is sensible at its current time.

Yes I've seen trade chat that fast. But there wasn't even any limit. Two minutes is better then nothing.

Perhaps it should be based upon the number of users that are online. Take this example: you take the number of users online, divide it by 5 and that's the number of seconds allowed between a message.
300/5 = 60 therefore 60 seconds must be left between messages.
    100/5 = 20 therefore 20 seconds between messages.

This makes great sense, because when there is less players online there are less trade chat messages, as well as a smaller audience, so therefore less competition and customers.

I wouldn't agree that the current timing is perfect. When there is 300 users online there is 10 or so moderators online, so one moderator isn't moderating 300 users it's more like 30 users. Also a lot of players choose not to talk in chat so it would be more like 10. Often if someone spams 3-5 mods ask the person to stop spamming, so as a team you shouldn't miss much and it's not the end of the world if someone spams once. We also have plenty of users that make it their business to report minor incidents that a moderator misses, so I think the chat was previously well covered and the new 3-5 minute rule is excessive.
On another note the minimum spacing between messages should be defined as a single integer because 3-5 can't really be enforced. Is it 3 minutes or 5 minutes?

That doesn't work, when there are less people chatting that means people can see the same message 2-3 times per chatwindow, which is basically spamming.

As for that, 10 moderators aren't moderating 30 users each, they're modering more like 200 users each, moderators pay attention to all of the chat, so they have to read all of it, which can be a very tedious task when chat is being spammed with trade chat.

Well, I'm not 100% sure how fast mods read chat, but I can pick up everything in global and auction all by myself.

I don't usually watch trade, and i can assume that mods also have to watch donator chat, but if there are 10 staff members online you can just have 3 watch trade, 2 watch global, ect.

Jason, heres what a moderator's chat window looks like generally. We have Staff Chat, Donator Chat, Auction, Trade, Global, Local and 1-4 PMs all at once. We also have to be constantly checking the forum to make sure there isn't an LWC, Complaint, Ban Appeal, Grief Report, or any other type of problem. The fact is, our job may seem simple but it isn't. That being said, we cannot guarantee that every staff member is reading everything therefore everyone has to try and be aware of everything going on. Assuming someone else is handling something is how things get missed.

Now to myminecrafter01's suggestion. I have to say I completely disagree. If the less people on = more frequency then all we end up with is constant trade spam. The fact is the less people talking the more your ad will be seen already. Be patient and wait for people to come to your ad. There is no reason to change the current rule. It is in place to help not just the moderators but also anyone else who would like to have a conversation as opposed to trying to talk around the 100 some odd ads going on at once.

Trade chat is basically what would happen if television had ads throughout your entire show. I wouldn't enjoy that especially if it was every 20 seconds. Every 3-5 minutes is reasonable.

If you can install macros, why not install TabbyChat or some other kind of filter..

In answer to your first paragraph. It sounds like you need more mods. I've noticed that there have been like 3 different staff app openings in the past few months, but if your still having a lack of people online and watching stuff, it sounds like you need even more staff.

    And...ECC is not TV:p

I think you failed to understand what she tried to explain.

She said that staff has to pay attention to everything, because we can't assume someone else is looking at the same part in chat. We have so much chat that it's difficult to handle, no matter how many staffmembers we have.

I understood, but eventually if the server keeps growing, it will be impossible for a single person to watch everything. Can't you just say to someone in /ch s that your gonna watch global, or auction or something? And ask someone else to keep their eye on trade. A little better communication?

But I'm not a staff member and if I'm asking a really silly question, go ahead and knock it :p

The server isn't always growing. You never know how many active users you may have on ECC
