I, Idostuff , humbly put forth the following suggestion:

Casinos should be removed from ECC, and gambling should be against Server Rules.

Some of the other players in this server that have been profiting off of casinos may find this suggestion not to their liking but there are very good reasons for Casinos to NOT be on this server.
Here is a quick list of very good reasons we should NOT have casinos:

    I)Violation of family friendly Policy
While I would agree to the presence of casinos if the server was filled with responsible adults and no children , that is simply NOT the case with Eco City Craft. I believe the presence of casinos is ruining the family friendly atmosphere of ECC , because it introduces gambling to it. How many of you would want your kids playing on a minecraft server that had gambling on it? Would you want your children to be extremely frustrated because they thought they could win at a casino game ? Would you like it if they somehow developed a gambling addiction due to their time spent on the server?

II) Problems with legitimacy and control
Since the rise in popularity of casinos in ECC i have observed players advertising that their casinos are "mod approved" . A mod may have "approved" their casino but what is to stop them from setting it up to be rigged RIGHT AFTER the moderator departs? The answer to that question? Nothing stops them. There is NO feasible way to control casinos without devoting moderators time to the oversight of them.Moderators time would be much better spent elsewhere. Furthermore how can you even verify a casino was ever "mod approved"? Suppose for example , a person just decides that their casino is "mod approved" and proceeds to advertise it in /ch tr or one of the chat channels. The only problem is that in reality that player's casino is RIGGED. Other players then decide to gamble at said casino and LOSE almost all of their money. What if YOU were one of the people who went to a casino thinking it was legitimate and found out it wasn't? Would YOU be very happy to have lost a significant portion of your assets?

That is all I have for now. I hope you can plainly see now why we do not need casinos on ECC. I would like anyone else that has further reasons why not to have them to post with further findings here in this thread.

If the staff went off your suggestion then lottery should be illegal right? Considering it is a form of gambling?

I agree with Idostuff. There is a reason that children are not legally allowed in casinos. ECC has little kids and I don't think that family-friendly and casinos go together very well. I've also been concerned about all the "mod approved" advertisements lately for some of the same reasons that Ido already expressed.

This is a game not real life. So you 2 are saying if a kid plays gta then he is going to leave his house punch someone in the face steal their car then go pick up a prostitute? Ludicrious. I am so tired of people of years and years saying movies and games influence people. I have never watched a movie nor played a game then got off the game and was like now lets do that in real life! So either you're saying people are really easily influenced by games or people are to dumb to think for themselves on what is appropriate in life or not.

Virathrax. You miss my point. Did I ever at any time in my post, suggest anything about going and gambling in real life? No, as a matter of fact I did not. I was merely pointing out fallacies with the logic that would be behind the continued operation of casinos on this server. I never did say or suggest that this might cause kids to go out and gamble irl, I simply said it was bad for the server. Thanks for your thoughts though, I do understand the issue you brought up but that is NOT the issue I am trying to have discussed on this thread.
    Thanks again though,

You cannot start comparing real life to ECC. Those that play on this server are old enough to know right from wrong and the differences between a game and real life. They are more likely to learn about the dangers of gambling if they lose all their money in a harmless game than if they see people at a casino on TV. Lottery is a form of gambling, and most users havr no issue. There are many parents that have played and let their children play, and have no concerns.

Regarding the legitimacy of the so called "mod approved" casinos. At the end of the day it is up to you to make a decision on whether or not you will choose to trust someone. If you think it may be rigged, make a few small bets, then make a decision whether you wish to bet more or not. Or even don't play at all. Use your common sense and don't expect something to be as it appears. If you are scammed at a casino, take screenshota and then make a complaint.

I don't think aspects of ECC should be removed because someone doesn't have any common sense, and can't control themselves.

I acknowledge that it is difficult to convey text messages through a phone whilst being grammatically correct and free of errors in spelling. I , too have experienced this issue.

Would you like it if they somehow developed a gambling addiction due to their time spent on the server?
IDostuff, the line above is from your words exactly meaning you think if someone gambles on here it will in turn go to their irl since they would become addicted would it not?

Also kids can't just go to store or casinos unless they are over 18, most casinos over 21 so kids can't just go and buy lotto or go to casinos just because they do it on server. So wether they get addicted or not they couldn't do anything about it.
Also am I the only one that had my grandparents give me a $1 scratch-off when I was younger in cards for a gift? lol

A persons inability to control themselves and become addicted is their problem, ECC should not have to restrict certain things to accommodate those people.

The lottery is a controlled form of gambling. It is ran automatically by the server, and it runs through the same process of choosing the winner every time.

I personally have never verified a casino, nor do I support them.

Virathrax, notice how I never mentioned "IRL GAMBLING ADDICTION" your interpretation of my text is , well, an interpretation. Please do not continue to presume I mean to be talking about real life. I have already told you that is not the intent of the text.

    PS
Regarding your grandparents giving you "scratch off tickets", that is perfectly legal. Whilst under 18 you simply could not collect your prize if you won without an adult to collect the prize for you.

For all things pertaining to the lottery I second Ryan's point. I ask that anyone referring to the lottery still being legal and asking why casinos shouldnt be should read it.

    Thank you Ryan.

I don't mind casino's, it's just that every 2 minutes someone loses, gets mad, and starts spamming "Don't go to (player name's) casino! It's a scam!" Then a huge arguement starts. It just gets ridiculous.

If you are not talking about real life then what would it matter if someone became addicted to gambling on a game.
It makes no sense to me.
I do agree with the "mods approve this casino" though that should not happen.

Upset players is most likely the only reason it would get removed.

At the very least no casino should be allowed to align itself with staff. No more "mod approved".
But yeah. I agree with OP.
Maybe not the same reasons but I dislike the player run casinos. I doubt they are going anywhere though...

    Greetings,

While I don't play in the casinos I don't really have a problem with them. It is like any other thing on the server, cover your butt with screenies, and do business with only trusted people. A scam is a scam and whether via a rigged casino or other means, will be dealt with when discovered/reported.

Players are always looking to get rich quick, and I don't think banning them would solve the issue.

As far as "mod approved": I do not think this is a valid statement. Any mod who loses their objectivity and 'endorses' a casino shouldn't be a mod. It leads to a slippery slope and puts the admin staff at a disadvantage if that casino is 'caught' doing anything illegal. 'Mod approved' = 'ECC approved' in my opinion. I would hope that a statement would be made that "no mods are approving any casino in the capacity as mods." I understand if a mod, while playing, likes to play at a casino, but there needs to be a distinction of "player x approved" and "mod x approved" since the term mod, to me, implies an extension of ECC.

Casinos... Are an interesting topic to bring up. As usual I will be giving my complete opinion and this may be long. That being said I'm on a road trip and I apologize for misspellings/ grammatical errors. Finally I wish to warn that the following are my own personal opinions and not representative of ECC staff/ECC opinions.

Now onto the topic at hand. On ECC we have a lovely economy. This economic system is a highly government over sighted version of capitalism. While Andrewkm controls the prices, he generally stays out of the 'business' aspect.

Essentially these casinos are like businesses. Any type of business has the ability to be abused and to abuse their workers or customer base. When I hirer people to work for me on my farm, I pay them less than the wheat is worth so I can make money. Also, you can take a product/company and abuse it into a pyramid scheme or simply rip people off. Even donation foundations could be abused on ECC. I'm not trying to make the player base wary, I'm just saying these things happen.

What if someone starts a foundation to help builders get decent tools upon joining ECC. That person gets 10 tools donated to the foundation. Mods aren't over seeing if all 10 of those tools are going to builders or not.

Now onto what is in my opinion another frequently abused questionable business on ECC, storage wars. Builders and younger players fall for these all the time. They aren't scams, they are ripoffs. The difference? You go into a scam with an exact concept of what you will get. Ie: I am paying $x.xx for object y.

When you go into a ripoff you have agreed that you don't know how this is going to go. With a storage wars, there is no guarantee of what will be in the chest. The same thing with a casino. You go into it knowing that you could lose. You have accepted that this is an environment where you may lose money. This is an environment where you may get ripped off.

I agree that the staff should not be testing these, and thus by extension, no player should claim their casino is approved by staff. Last night, I visited a casino. I player tried to get me to claim it was not a rip off. All I felt I could say, after the amount I'd seen is that it is no more a rip off then a real life casino where they purposely tip the odds in their favor.

Casinos are never going to be profitable for the players, but lets be serious, most of us know it is only profitable for the "house" aka the casino. Despite that, it's fun to play.

Basically, my stance is that in a true economic game we should not illegalize rip offs just because people are getting ripped off. What we should do is not allow players to call something "moderator approved." That is going way too far. It suggests it isn't a rip off. I'm not okay with players using the staff to gain business.

Anyways, that's my two cents, sorry for being long winded.
