I think it's not whether or not it should be removed as whether or not it can be removed. I'm in full support of this though.
yes however i used to own a server, and have done it before, honestly i am getting annoyed by all the flying in pvp arena, and so are other players
I can see what the intention is, as it would make PvP'ing more fair. But I think there could be some problems if this happens: There are probably some people that bought the Flying donation feature taking in mind that they could fly anywhere in the mainworld, including PvP. Removing this from them might cause anger, and would mean a 'deal-sweetener' loss on said feature which has a chance of making a small group of people retain themselves from donating for it in the future. Of course, I can be terribly wrong and just like you (someone with fly) most other flying donators would agree to disable it, but if you're leaving this to open discussion to everyone, including those who don't have the feature, you'll probably end up with more people saying "Flying's unfair! Remove it from PvP!". Remember, some people who paid 60$ real life currency might feel disappointed if something like this was taken away, and feel it's unfair to them. As I don't have Flying and probably won't get it quite soon I'd say I have a neutral stance on this suggestion.
I have fly, and have talked to people who have had fly, and they agree, its unfair, and there are some people (not naming them) who just plain abuse it by speeding around hitting once, and leaving, it gets really annoying for those who really want to pvp, and not have people run off. The same is with people who have tpplus, they just use a compass to get out of the arena, and then they dont worry about it anymore, or they go above the person and go back down to attack.
I get your point, but the thing is; those people might have actually donated to be able to do exactly those things you say, and as there is no rule against it...why would they stop?
I think the reason it hasn't been removed is because it's not possible with our current plug-ins. In worldguard you can block commands, ie /spawn, /warp, /home etc but you can't change a players flying state. You could block the /fly and /speed commands but this would only disallow enabling/disabling your fly mode within the pvp arena, you could just fly into the arena with fly enabled. This would be possible if the pvp arena was in a different world where fly is disabled. I personally don't pvp but disabling it would make pvp fairer and I have fly.
No, the pvp area has had fly because mining world didnt have it. Since mining world can have fly now with fly plus, everybody who actually pvps with fly will go into mining world, which means less people in pvp arena. Its not hard to strategically fight while flying, just some users dont even fight with it. So i agree with you on the point that some users fly in and punch them, but other users use it for strategic advantages. Also it will be extremely hard to ensure that it can be disabled for only pvp area, because that is part of main world. Main world has fly in it so people can still fly in there after enabling fly outside the arena. Also pvp is literally right next to tutorial island, and market. With pvp being that close to other popular places, if fly gets disabled for that area, we might not even be able to fly in those popular areas. All in all, if you dont like people flying go to the mining world and fight.
Many people bought fly to pvp. They paid $60 usd just to use it in pvp, if you remove it they will be annoyed and complain.
Doing a slight necro so I don't have to create a new thread. I have just recently gotten into pvp, and can honestly say that using fly in pvp isn't really pvp. You can hardly attack the person flying, which makes it more of a one sided game, which isn't pvp at all. That's more of let's see if I can run around and not get hit by the flyers. It's entirely no fun to chase them around, which kills more than half the fun of pvp'ing in general. I understand that this is an economy based server, but pvp really shouldn't be neglected or it would make for a very fun aspect of this game left ruined. So could someone who would have any idea of whether or not this could actually be implemented on the server please comment on how hard/impossible this would be to configure.
I like the idea, however I had my own server and know a lot about the commands which can apply. As someone mentioned blocking the command really only blocks the command, so when someone flies into the PVP area they can still fly. There is another problem, if it would be possible to deny fly in the PVP you would fall down and die when you fly over it (cruising at high altitude .... BAM !!! you die). So I really think this is not possible, the only possibility would be to relocate the PVP arena to a PVP world, which would give the server more stress, thus more lag and so on.... As someone else mentioned, try PVP in the mineworld.
