I have a related post here, but it was recommended that I make a suggestion post as well. Given the recent increase in Mayors evicting Residents of their towns arbitrarily, I'd like to recommend some sort of protection be put in place to prevent wholesale scamming/looting. I'm not sure what would be feasible or workable, but some ideas include: - explicitly renting property instead of selling it. A "sale" should be final, a "lease" could last for a month or six. Dividing property this way would increase stability and perhaps increase income for mayors. - insisting that mayors reimburse evictees, active on the server or not. This would be irritating but fair for the residents, and would prevent a bad mayor from selling land, evicting and looting, and then selling it again. - creation of a new rank that would sit between resident and mayor, allowing cheaper establishment of smaller protected plots in the wild. Thoughts?
Most residents are removed due to inactivity or bans. If a player is not on the server for more then say three weeks without any notification, it can be said that MOST likely he/she will not be coming back. With the slight chance that he/she comes back may occur, this is bad, but most definitely the minority.
Yes, and I should state that I am definitely not talking about player inactivity here. There does need to be a way for mayors to prevent their towns from turning into ghost towns, and I think the admins handle this very well.
I don't mind this, but think about it. A lot of the time a player is kicked for breaking some sort of rule, even if they didn't know. Most mayors will not randomly kick you, residents need to take more time to review the town rules and follow them.
There is a rule that you can’t evict people for no reason (at least without pre warning.) What it comes down to though is a mayor may run his or her town how they want. If I want to make a rule saying no walking in my town, (you can only sprint) and I see you walking, I can remove you no questions asked. You broke one of my rules. What I can’t do is one day log on and remove everyone to take their stuff. If that happens to you or another res or builder file a complaint.
What you can do is post a message warning people that they have a week to "move their stuff", and then kick everyone out after that time. This has been happening a lot recently, and is why I made this post.
Most there is right now is this, from the Wiki rules: I heard the Wiki may be getting cleaned up and possibly re-written in some aspects, but I don't know for sure... I'd poke the Wiki team and/or Andrew to see if anything like that will happen soon, and see if suggestions have a better chance of being seen. I haven't been active in-game recently, but I know that Mayors do kick their town residents out like such. :/ And I agree that something should be done about it. Either a rewrite for the current rule/statement, an addition to it, or a new rule/guideline. I understand that Mayors can essentially run their town "how they want," but if using a real life example isn't "bad" (people are going to whine about it, since "THIS IS A GAME")... Real life Mayors, Governors, the President... or, well, government overall - they may have a lot of power, but they also have to follow a set of rules to keep things fair. They can't just willy-nilly go "lol screw this town/city/district's people, I want to evict people based on ___ /kickseveryonelikethatout." Same goes for even an apartment owner, or a rental house owner. They usually can't just kick you right out the door and say, "f you." Usually there is some kind of "contract" or general "rules" they also have to go by. Hopefully that.. makes sense.. and is still actually on topic. >>; Brain is malfunctioning lately, and I ramble more than usual.
I already told you dude we have the rights to kick people from our towns if the users in the town break a rule/abuse/grief/disobay.... If that happened id kick from town for breaking rules......
You could at least read my post before replying. Nothing you've said applies to what I'm talking about.
I haven't seen many mayor evicting there whole town. Kicking players and then re-selling the land is already illegal because that is classed as exploiting/scamming.
I think, rather, that the resident needs to realize that buying a plot in a town is not very far removed from the wild. You have no "rights" to the land, you have the "privileges" the mayor(s) give you, and can take away at a moments notice. There are no leases. If you want rights, get your own town.
The problem with this point of view is that it will damage business for mayors who want to make income by selling property. Selling plots is a traditional way for mayors to recoup the cost of buying a town. Allowing people to sell plots, evict tenants, and then sell plots again will simply kill this market as nobody will trust this kind of transaction. There isn't any kind of mechanic in place for secure trades, it's just a gentleman's agreement. If we took a "buyer beware" attitude towards trading the economy of the server would collapse. This isn't really any different. Resident protection is good for residents, good for mayors, and good for the server. It needs to happen.
