Oh god would this be ABUSED. That button would be hit like a punching bag and the lag would eventually cause A) people to leave or B) the server to explode at the stupidity of WHY people dont want less lag.
...Did you read the post at all? He wants to give the ability for Moderator+ users to choose to have the server not restart optionally. Moderator+ users wouldn't abuse it - and it's as he said, it'd only be for times like when the login servers are down, because otherwise users wouldn't get to play at all anyway. Regardless - I don't think this is necessary, since it will rarely be helpful. I think people can wait an hour or two for the login servers to play again. It gives time to actually catch up on homework stuff instead of playing Minecraft all day anyway.
The reward gained for implementing this simply wouldn't be worth the effort. In the three months I've seriously been playing SMP the login servers have only gone down for a significant amount of time a couple of times.
