Name: RailefBear Suggestion: The addition of "On Probation" as an official status for offenders and this to be added to the Staff's procedure when processing Ban appeals or Complaints. Reason: A probation period should be given to offenders who qualify for it (at Staff's discretion). If anything serious (offense) happens during this period of time the felon should be given an immediate temp/perma ban (Staff's discretion). This is to avoid the repetition of, mainly, small offenses that usually are solved with a [Warning] or short time [TempBan]. Ex: Felon gets warned - next small offense - 2 hour temp ban - next small offense - 5 hour temp ban/1 day - etc. This also prevents Offenders to commit several small offenses within a relatively short period of time. My main reason, however, is that this will act as a strong dissuasive tool, supporting the punishments already being given. Also, I't would be at Staff's discretion whether to give a (long) TempBan / PermaBan if the offender qualifies for a 2nd Probation status (after the previous one has been completed). **************************************************************************************************** I know Staff already does something similar, since they check the offender's history before applying the next punishment. But as I said before, if an official Probation period is given then it will dissuade the player to commit more offenses instead of saying "ok, I'll do it and just get another 1 day temp ban" for example. ****************************************************************************************************
Are you proposing this so players can see this person is untrustworthy? Mods already do this it's just not visible to other players but they do add offenses to your name already for long term which is more efficient then changing a status.
I know the already do this. I said it in the suggestion itself. But the player doesn't know he is in probation or something alike. If you told the person "hey, you committed this, I'll let you go with a tempban/warning but you'll be on probation" then I'm sure the player will take extra care to stay within the rules instead of saying "ok, I'll wait until my tempban is over, do it again and get another (although longer) tempban". It's solely for the offender. We already know who is untrustworthy just by looking at the Bans/Complaints section. It would be pointless if this suggestion was aiming for that.
I now see where you probably got confused. I'm not saying that the person should be tagged as "in probation" in the forums or anything like that. I'm trying to get this added to the procedure staff take when processing the bans/complaints. As I also said in the suggestion, the idea is that when the mod gives the sentence to the ban/complaints he would say " Locked - Player given a 2 day tempban and is now on Probation". Not for the mod to know, by for the player to know.
I think that if a user is banned they should be given a probation tag so other users can recognise that they have done something against the rules and therefore be weary of them.
I disagree. That'd be denigrating for the player and I personally feel that the ECC community strives for being inclusive. Tagging a player would be exclusive and if the rest of the community doesn't trust him or doesn't interact with him (or even treat him bad) for a tag then the player would end up leaving instead of redeeming himself and becoming a better player and member of the community
My suggestion helps in the sense that it will sort of "force" the person to behave and hopefully learn (bans and tempbans already do this but as I said, this measure would be in support of the already existing punishments). Hence, helping the member to rejoin the community, behave and enjoy the server.
If you do not agree with what I have said then there is really no reason in your suggestion at all. It just complicates things.
Would you read the suggestion again please? It aims for something totally different to what you are saying. I am not trying to tag players so everyone knows they did something bad. You can go and read the BanAppeal/Complaints sectioj if you need that information. This suggestion aims to add another type of punishment for certain offences, adding another reason for the player to behave in the future. There's no need to tag a player as a Felon, that borders humiliation.
I'm all for the in game tag... Have it like a custom tag that says "Probation" so they don't even get a chance to keep up their crap. I don't feel like re-writing it but here's my opinion: http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/t...ban-isnt-enough-punishment.89908/#post-445723
I, again, disagree. I am not for the humiliation/denigration of players by tagging them due to an infraction. There are other, less "agressive" ways of dealing with these issues.
Ecc has enough measures for punishing players in place. The ONLY reason this would be needed would be to warn players. Most players, usually those of lower ranks do not check old complaints or ban appeals. This would ensure that they knew who they were dealing with. This is no humiliation at all. Most games have things like this in place such as the trading probation on steam.

I'm not saying "Oh you did minor grief? Temp-ban and dunce hat!!", no. I'm saying for people who scam and such. I hate looking into the forums when I do deals, this could help with that to an extent. At least I would know that the user in question hasn't scammed anyone else lately before I hand them my money.
