Minecraft Name: RailefBear Suggestion: Change the current Spawn Shop area to a new one or modify the current one. Reason: I've always felt like there's a lot of space being wasted, if you use fly you'll be able to see it more clearly (but I noticed before having fly) The model i'm suggesting is based on the exact same area (182x90) but with a better use of space and arrangement/disposition of the shops (if possible). The model build provides shops with the same size as the current one and also adds a few new shops with different area. It also gives a better view of other shops apart from those in the Main Area. I'll put more specific below, PROs and CONs as well as some screenshots. Other Information: What changes: - Complete new look. With a new Spawn Area, why not a new Spawn Shop area with a much more fresh look and more visually appealing. The current one is quite gray and monotone. Now, this one will be mainly white, so no big change in the use of mainly one colour, BUT the area of a shop will continue to be stone slabs (gray). This helps to separate walkway from shop (mainly for renter's benefit). Being white and gray helps to add some variety instead of everything just being gray. And well, it's made of quartz. Everyone loves quartz. - We get rid of the shop in the underground level. This shops are barely used and those who use it have a lower chance of getting customers. (I've only been there a couple of times just to see if someone actually uses them). - The Main Area will then be brought down to where the lower level is but won't be underground, of course. - New shops built in balconies (see pictures below). These shops are quite visible from the Main Area, which is good for those who will rent them. - Easier access to the shops by the sides. Got rid of that stair going down. - Added a stair to the new shops on the balconies. This will be almost the same as the underground shops (have a stair, and a little harder to access to) but their positioning improves quite a bit. - Added 2 more shops in the Main Area by pushing a couple of shops (Stolio's and Kmaxwell's in the reference picture) to the back a little bit. PROs: - New, better, more modern (I think haha) look. - Better arrangement of shops - More efficient use of space - New shops - Got rid of a level that practically nobody uses - Made of quartz. (Yes, quartz are awesome). - Better access to shops. - Main area shops are the same except for 2 new ones, so Main Area shop renters are not greatly affected (if not at all). CONs: - There are a few people that use the underground area. - Movement of shops will be a process that some/many might not like. It shouldn't take long but it's still present. - The area is the same. Meaning that the shops are all in the same place, not spread in a bigger place. This means the lag will remain as it is today. (If the area was bigger and if it had the same amount of shops, the lag would decrease since the [Trade] signs wouldn't be all clustered in one place). This point was brought up by OnScene, I didn't think about this on my own. Note: There might be more PROs and CONs, feel free to add them in the comments below. Suggested Spawn Shop area: Please notice: - This is about 1/4 of the actual area. It's all symmetric so you would find the same on the other 3 parts of the rectangle (spawn shop area). - The Diamond "shops" are there for reference. This shows you the "buildable" area for shop renters and different and new locations of the shops. They are not actually part of the suggested model. - Stolio's and Kmaxwell's shops are added for the same purpose. To have an idea of where things area and how big/small/compact/big/etc the area is. - This is open to suggestions for modifications, change in materials, etc. - Your opinion matters a lot to me, could you please share it? - I'm thinking about changing the place where the number of the station is to be Quartz pillar instead of stone slabs as I built it (in the images). The last 2 are on an earlier stage of the building process. But they give you a closer look. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Looks great, a great alternative to the current market, whether it would happen or not is a different story but I like the design
I think it's a good idea. I often get lost and confused trying to navigate the current spawn shop area.
moving the shops to the new setup would be a mega nightmare and is the reason that we will never change.
_TANSTAAFL I agree it would be hard. But for every good change, sacrifices must be made if necessary. I believe this improvement is definitely worth it. I There are several ideas that we (people I've been talking about this with and I) have come up with that can solve the issue and make it less problematic. I didn't add it because I'm focused on whether or not people like the suggestion. If they do then I can move to the next stage, which would be adding/suggesting what could be done in order to make the transition less problematic.
Your design isn't better than the current setup except for removing the underground area. It is functionally the same otherwise, so there isn't enough of a benefit to making a change. if you insist on prettier blocks, that can be done without completely re-doing the market. just use some world edit.
_TANSTAAFL the only thing that's almost the same is the Main Area. The rest is quite changed. It might not look like it because it's the exact same area so i have to use the same basic idea. Portal in middle, middle road to each side, main area and then 2 exits to the side for more shops. Of course it looks similar. If I had used a different area, different from what we have now (which is 182 x 90) then yeah, it would have been a lot different.
It's a huge change and improvement to renters of the lateral shops. With this disposition of shops the spawn shop market will most likely improve too, with more people renting shops. There will be more shops that will require less advertising, such as the one on top of the stairs and those right next to the lateral road (right after getting out of the main area). For Main Area shop renters there's no big change, that's true. For the rest, the change is quite noticeable.
As Railefbear knows, I spoke to Andrew about this briefly a few months ago, and hopefully Kukelekuuk and I will be able to change the design of the current spawn shops soon.
This can go both ways... It would be nice to have a new shop area, just like the awesome new spawn; But its also a hassle of specifically optimizing the design, building it, and importing it into the server. Personally I like the current shops, I finally got used to searching through them... But I wouldn't complain if there was a new layout. +1/-1
I agree with Tanstaafl. While the current market is a little dull, it isn't necessary to do a complete overhaul of it, rather just a world edit with different building materials
steveshizzle My main goal here is using the space in the area better and improving the location of the shops. I just did the building with new material because, well, I could while designing it. It is a + to my main point. We get rid of the shops that practically nobody uses and put new ones and old ones more visible. I do understand what you 2 guys are saying. And I personally believe that's staying in the comfort side "We already got something, why change it". If given the chance/permission, I'd do all the work myself if needed.
I like the idea, the underground is heavily under utilized, and even some of the lower shops are sitting empty a lot A large number of folks have setup shops in there own towns, with many having there own warp or using tp's. Adding 2 more "main floor" shops would be great, since I want one and flatening the area espcially with maybe a second portal ( red and blue ) or proper street design ( Main st = current main area, behind those the current lowers ) with through passages. I am glad to hear clou and kuke are looking at it, since I think it would be nice to perform the overhaul, BUT the migration would be a nightmare ( I just moved from lower to mid, and was not pretty ).. So +1 for the change, still on the fence on the design.
I like railef's idea I personally think its great and the spawnshop is pretty dull now and needs a change. Great job RailefBear
Dccciz I dissagree i think it does need to be fixed....what do you like better about the spawnshop now than what he showed?
What is wrong with it that needs to be fixed? Currently, users have to work hard for a "top floor" spawnshop. With this new design, you wouldn't need to. The underground part is used by multiple users, generaljoecool might have something to say about his spawnshop. For now, unless there is a reason why it is "broken" it doesn't need to be fixed.
