Minecraft Name: zedoker Suggestion: To add a new /help section in game for new users starting out. Reason: Often, I sit in spawn and chat with mods, help out new players, and often just watch all the players passing by spawn. Every day, I see a new player, a builder, come onto the server, and ask "What do I do?" (or some variation of that). From what I've seen, most of the moderators and players answer in the same manner about what to do. So I am suggesting a new section in the /help list that moderators+ and other users can tell the new user to use. After then will they answer questions if the builder is still confused. Any Other Information: I will reserve the first comment for the purpose of writing down the section. Have any changes? Post it below! Why should you care? Remember back when you were a builder? I doubt that many of you knew exactly what to do, what to strive for when you firt started out. This is meant to help out the next generation Link To This Plugin: n/a
/help Start Welcome to Ecocitycraft! As a new user here, you may be wondering what you do here on this server. Earning Money: This is an economy server, and with that, you need to earn money to rank up, buy many useful things, towns, etc. For more information, use /help money. A useful command for mining is the /kit starter command. Ranking up: Ranking up is an essential part of this server, and as you move up, you are able to get towns and become richer and richer in the ECC community. For more information, please use /help ranks. Buying homes/towns: You can buy towns and homes that you can call your own! First get some money, then ask a mayor for a plot by using /ch trade. You get your town when you purchase the "Mayor" rank, use /help ranks. Donate: Help the server pay its fees by donating for a feature that you can only get by donating! Use /help donate for more information. Survival games?
I support this idea and think it can help. While I certainly don't mind explaining how to start to new users. Having a thought out good answer ready to go at a command would be helpful.
I think this would also be very helpful to new builders. Not only to have them learn the commands but also to show how friendly of a community we are!
I don't think all that would fit on one screen Most people don't like books because they would flood the server, but it's hard to give a perfect /help command when there's scrolling chat.
If you scroll up while reading something, the chat doesnt move until it starts to hit the max amount of words it can hold, so that should be plenty of time
I bet if you went around and asked a few builders, you would find some that didn't know about chat scrolling. I've come across people that ask me to repeat something right after I've said it, and then tell me they didn't realize they could scroll up. But still, chat moves extremely fast at high time.
Agreed, however, i think that you need to grasp the concept of ECC into a smaller section that is small and powerful rather then long and boring. If you drag it out, then it also might become confusing for them, not knowing what to do still. Of course there will be mods to help answer their questions, but the point of the command is to explain ECC so they understand the basic points.
If they scroll up to read it, then the chat wont move until the max is hit, so theyll stumble across it anyway
I was just thinking to took something like what you already had, but turning it into pages, because like Jason said, some people don't know how to/can't scroll chat up.
I don't think you understand what I mean, some people don't know about scrolling or can't (Broken mouse or no mouse)
I visited a friends server a week ago and every time someone joins the server for the first time they are spawned in with a book explaining the server rules, things to do to be allowed to build etc. Is this possible to do with ECC as well? Maybe have a book called "How to get started on ECC" and have everything that zed said up in post #2
Yes it's very easy to do this, or have a /kit to do this. The problem is that ECC would have thousands floating around. It might not happen with a one time log-in instead of a kit though. I have mixed feelings about it.
