Minecraft Name: Nicodemux Suggestion: I would like you to consider again whether the "/near" donation feature ought to be enabled in Mining World. It is already disabled in the Nether. Reason: I have an addiction to breaking people's spawners. Since the recent experience change, I've been using the "/near" donation feature to hunt people in Mining World. I am able to search mining world much faster than most players because I have Fly+. Also, the TP feature allows me to use the build warps to quickly teleport from spot to spot. When I localize a person within 60ish meters, I dig down and around until I see their name through the floor/wall. If they are standing at spawners, I stealthily go in and break the spawners. Often, they don't even know who did it because I use "/disguise" to conceal my presence. After I destroy the spawners, I use "/home" to teleport out before they spot me. As you can see, I'm making substantial use of donation features to accomplish this behavior. I have been told by staff that what I've been doing is legal. I don't troll people by mocking them after the fact, I just break the spawners and silently move on. But I feel like I have an addiction to hunting people in this way, and I feel like I'm not going to stop unless you disable /near in mining world, or else outlaw the use of it to hunt people down. I know that this server is "hardcore economy", and I am doing this partially for economic gain (attempting to drive up exp prices), but honestly the main reason I do it is the thrill of the hunt. Andrewkm, if you're ok with me doing this, then so be it. I just thought I would bring it up now. For anyone who I victimized who is reading this, I'm sorry if I upset you, it was nothing "personal". Even Zard's spawners fell victim to my pickaxe. Twice. And I like Zard, a lot. Overall I'd say I've ransacked maybe 30-35 locations, for a total of about 45-50 spawners (because some of them were doubles/triples/quads). Any Other Information: People with the "/vanish" donation feature turned on are immune from my hunts, because they don't show up on /near, so I'm unable to localize them. I also want to mention that I don't want to upset people so greatly that they are less inclined to play ECC. I love ECC and do not want to do something that has the effect of hurting the community. Thanks for your time. Link To This Plugin: The /near command is part of the "ExtCommands" donation feature.
I'm torn on this one. On one side, this is how the exp market can be manipulated and it's how the market stays alive. On the other hand, it could potentially drive away players from the server. (Although, if you set up a spawner then you should be prepared to lose it within a week or two) Of course, people with vanish have the advantage of spawners not being found, and people with fly+ (and ext commands) have the advantage of easily finding spawners. What happens here is when no one destroys spawners the exp prices will drop due to a large supply, and spawners become less popular. Driving the prices up again, but it will slowly go back down. I think that if /near was removed the exp prices would drop to a new low. Something similar would happen with /near, but on a much larger scale. If too many spawners are being destroyed, people are less inclined to farm exp, which will drive the prices up. But, as the prices get higher, people are more inclined to gather exp, which leads to another drop. Which leads to people destroying more spawners to get the prices back up. All in all, the effects on the economy wouldn't be any different, only /near will have a much stronger effect when enabled. Because the market can be directly influenced by people. Another thing, there's always blaze spawners in the Nether. There's no /near in the Nether and if someone is really serious about getting exp, then blaze farming is the way to do it.
In "response" to Kuke's post... If disabling /near could be bad, and keeping it enabled could be bad; what about lowering the distance in which /near reaches in the Mining World...?
I would hate to see /near nerfed. lol, but purely for selfish reasons. I also am a part-time "hunter". I use /vanish now that I have it, but have 'hunted' long before I had it. On a side note. I destroy spawners as a directive made by Andrew in chat many months ago. I feel I am doing my ECC duty when I hit paydirt.
I feel it should be noted, he encouraged this when exp was still accessible from more than just spawners. We have no idea what he thinks now considering exp is so hard to get as is.
Nico destroyed a double set up zombie and skele spawner my friends found, it was beautifully made and he ruined it.... That being said I gotta give him props for doing this! I agree.
In regards to the /near nerf, it was already nerfed to only show people within a maximum range of 500 blocks. In the past, you could '/near 2000' or even '/near 5000'. Also, if you're set on finding spawners and have Fly+, a nerf to /near probably wouldn't make much of a difference in the end.
Then what would be the point of those features? Most people disguise or vanish mostly so they can mine/roam in peace.
And also, I disagree with this suggestion. /near is disabled in all PVP enabled areas (besides town PVP) to prevent people from using /near to find and hunt down anyone. With the EXP market, prices went back down within 72 hours of andrewkm disabled EXP from mining. Without /near, there will be more active spawners meaning that the EXP prices will continue to stay low, resulting in andrewkm possibly disabling more methods of obtaining EXP.
