Have you tried farming wheat or reeds? Both of these are insta-break and require no tools to break them. Reeds sell for $0.40 (however if you allow reeds to grow fully you get $0.80 per break) and you do not need to replant afterwards. Wheat now sells for $1.75 plus $0.50 for each seed left over after replanting (you occasionally get extra seeds from herbalism MCMMO). I have found both of these better alternatives to pumpking farming (haven't tried melon farming!) Hope this helps
