Minecraft Name: priMELval Suggestion: Have a maximum "credit" loan (betting money you don't actually have) between players at casinos. If the debt is over the maximum, only the maximum will be enforced. Reason: Player x lets player y bet 4mil of "credit" on a casino game. Player y loses. Player x is now owed 4mil despite neither players having that amount to begin with. It shouldn't be possible to get into 4mil debt that easily Any Other Information: Maybe the max debt could be 200k or 500k Link To This Plugin/Is this a custom addition?: nah
I don't understand yet - are you suggesting a server loan system which would then be limited or do you want to limit an existing system? If the latter one, what do you mean with "credit" in this case?
She's suggesting that due to a recent event, no casino be allowed to extend more than x amount of credit to any player due to the nature of gambling. If a casino extends credit to a player, then the maximum they are allowed to extend is "an amount that can be paid back in a reasonable time frame", with both the amount and time frame being specific, such as 200k in 2 weeks.
As much sympathy as I feel, I disagree with this suggestion. Players shouldn't bet more than they can afford. Bet, loose, pay the consequences. It isn't the servers job to stop you and it shouldn't be. -1
Well, I'm not 100% agreeing with the idea, nor am I disagreeing with it. Terms have to be reasonable, period. I believe that is a server rule already. But, common sense should prevail on both sides. Someone shouldn't let it get unreasonable with the gleeful look in their eye to be able to file a complaint against another user. 2c
Ah, thank you - now I understand, it basically refers to loans for gambling. Basically, that sums up my opinion about the idea - every player is responsible for the terms they agree to. They should know in advance whether they will have enough time to pay it back if they lose - and if they don't consider that part, I somehow lack sympathy for this decision then. If a player fails to do the calculation in advance, they should just not get a loan for gambling (Loans for gambling, needless to say, is a bad idea in itself).
In this case, it wasn't a loan in the classical sense. It was a "line of credit", meaning no agreed upon amount. Simply a "yes, you can bet more but whatever you owe is due on day x". Kinda shoddy, but when you gamble and go up and down....I agree with you though, both parties should know what they can /can't afford in that time.
Anyone who owns a casino should be making the player/players put money in a sign payable to the casino owner (chips on the table) before any bet is placed. I dont think its the servers responsibility to control the casino system. If you want to give a player a tab or line a credit thats on you, also if a player wants to gamble at a casino thats on them.
As said above, not the servers responsibility for casinos. They are not against the rules, however it would be up to the staff member running the casino or the casino owner to accept credit as a form of gambling. In my casino I'd be willing to loan small amounts for people to gamble with interest. Generally I'd prefer not to, what if they bet $1,000,000 (credit)? They either win and get (In a x2 situation) $2,000,000 subtract the $1m credit, so a total of a $1m profit, or they lose it all and are in debt $1,000,000 then quit. From my point of view, I either lose $1m or I get scammed and am owed $1m. Sure I don't physically lose any money but I lost it in the sense that I risked my money from legitimate sources compared to an imaginary credit. As I said, up to the people running casinos, but we don't want to further increase debt issues and gambling addictions. Gambling is meant for a bit of fun, if you can't afford to lose and are not willing to lose then DO NOT gamble, simple as that.
-1 A minecraft server is not responsible for people's gambling addictions. Set your own limits to what you think is reasonable.
Though I agree with general idea of the suggestion, I have to question the presiding factors of it. I'm aware you're 4mil in debt to matrix. Are you creating this suggestion knowing that it would be ex-post-facto and you would still be in debt the same amount? If so you'd have my +1 without hesitation.. But that's not what it seems. It seems the whole purpose of this is to escape what you gambled at your own risk. Suggestions, at least in my opinion, are meant to help the server as a whole, including casino owners. Not to help one escape their own debt.
