Alright, I understand how there may be toxicity in any server with competitiveness, or any game for the matter. You may lose a lotto, lose an SG match, or whatever. But I think that you just shouldn't be typing that angry shit directed at other users when you lose something or whatever, but I understand being upset at something, and letting it spill out.

However, to this day, I've never understood how death threats could be okay, in absolutely any circumstances here in a Community-Oriented, Family Friendly Minecraft server. I completely understand you may be frustrated, but it is never ok to tell someone to go kill themselves. As shitty as your day might have been, there's always someone who is worse off trying to have fun and enjoy themselves on a minecraft server like ECC - There may be another person even more stressed out, or even feeling depressed and even sometimes suicidal. And then here, you come in, telling people like that to go kill themselves.

Now, don't you try to justify somehow that death threats are okay. I don't care whatever the person whom you directed it at was doing, death threats are just not okay. We come here to have fun, not harass or torment people - Harassment is what ruins the fun, yes, you, the person who makes death threats, is ruining the game. Think how you would feel, were you on the other side of this. Think how you would feel to come on, hoping to play ECC and relax, only to be greeted with insults and death threats.

Anyway, onto the point, I suggest adding to the staff guidelines that telling someone to go kill themselves will result in an ingame ban without warning.

I'm not really quite sure why you would think this is okay under the current rules. It most certainly isn't, and shouldn't need to be explicitly mentioned.

This specific suggestion goes against what I'd like to do with the rules - I would like to make them simpler, with less specific clauses - and this goes in the opposite direction of that.

people can say "kill yourself" or "kys" in chat and all they would get is a verbal warning. It should be treated more harshly, imo. Adding it to the rules doesn't seem like a good idea, because it would only complicate our already stupidly complicated ruleset, but adding it to staff's punishment guidelines should suffice. (given staff actually follows said guidelines)

-1, I see no problem with the current rules. Death threats already fall under the harassment clause and are punished if said.

I'm wanting an instant ban without warning for people who say things like this. They only get verbal warnings, as I've saw someone earlier only get a verbal warning for telling a user to go kill themselves.

They only get a verbal warning - they should be banned without warning, like advertising.

No need for a insta ban for saying this.

Why not? You're telling someone to go die, which is absolutely not okay. You, by saying things like this, is ruining not only the server but the game itself as well, by making it unenjoyable. I have no respect for players who try to harass other players and tell them to go die, nor will I ever.

They still deserve a warning. In the end it's just a chat message. There is also a /ignore command. I certainly don't tell people to kill themselves and I'm certainly not saying to let them off doing nothing but I don't like insta bans for chat messages.

Edit: in your thread you keep saying that the staff views death threats as ok. They are clearly not viewed as ok.

A chat message can means lots of things to people - Cyberbullying isn't something that should be taken lightly, as people have actually had depression issues and even committed suicide because of this. Ignore won't solve problems, it just runs away from them.

One kill ur self isn't cyber bullying it's rude and deserves a warning. Multiple kys with curse words is cyber bullying perhaps and deserves a ban.

Fun fact: If you tell someone to kill themselves it’s considered encouraging suicide (a felony), and you can get a fine and prison time, and if they actually commit suicide then you can also be charged with involuntary manslaughter. (which can lead up to 7 years in prison in the US.)

But it's just rude and just deserves a warning on ECC, right? No big deal.

You can only be charged with involuntary manslaughter of you tell someone to kill themselves while knowing they are likely to commit subside and with the intent of making them do it. And this is only in some states. And this is only if they do commit suicide. Telling an anonymous stranger kys on a Minecraft server isn't going to do anything sorry.

I wouldn't say an instaban is something we should have, I'd rather see a warn OR kick then ban.

    MISSING THE POINT.

The point I'm trying to make is that telling someone to kill themselves can have real consequences. It's completely irrelevant if you joke or not. And that the criminal laws in the United States and Canada back this.

Just because you don't think someone being a [Mod-Edit] on the internet can have real life consequences doesn't mean it won't actually have real life consequences. Don't be ignorant. To some people a single word can already push them over the edge.

You obviously don't know how much of an effect words said by people can have on a person -

    http://wncn.com/2015/11/15/family-suffers-loss-of-daughter-due-to-cyberbullying/
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Jadin_Bell

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Megan_Meier
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_of_Phoebe_Prince
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenneth_Weishuhn

EVERY SINGLE ONE of these suicides had cyber bullying attributed to the cause, and that's just a handful of them - There's countless others who have committed suicide due to the inconsiderate and sick actions of others online. When people like them are on the edge, even the slightest thing can set them over the edge - Cyberbullying like this is absolutely unacceptable for a server like ECC.

The intent does matter, intentionally causing suicide is different from being a [Mod-Edit] on the Internet despite how horrifying the result of both may be.

Would I tell someone to kill themselves
    Absolutely not
Is this a horrible thing to do
    Absolutely
Am I for stricter chat rules
    Absolutely not,
