Minecraft Name: LordCwispy Suggestion: Make there be a minimum amount that you can win from the lottery be based on $50 times the number of tickets purchased in the previous lottery. Reason: The lottery is an OBVIOUS attempt at a money sink and only works if people buy tickets and the MORE tickets people buy, the MORE money that is sunk into the sink. Here is the logic: if 100 tickets is purchased in the previous lottery that means that the next lottery will be worth at LEAST $5k, but the lottery will have already partially done its job by sucking $10k out of the game. But, now, SOMEONE will buy at least one ticket for a chance that the $5k or THAT $5k will actually go away, too. The way the lottery works, people are more likely to buy a ticket if someone has already bought a ticket, because despite the mathematics behind the lottery, people like to win something; but, if I am the only person that buys a ticket, I am currently GUARANTEED to lose money. If there is already some money in the pot, which actually comes from the previous pot, then by buying a ticket, I actually have a CHANCE to get more money than I put in if NOONE else buys a ticket. I suspect that this will cause the lotteries to grow bigger and bigger and bigger. Possibly a maximum could be set that is carried over from the previous lottery; maybe something like $1 million, which would require that 20,000 tickets were purchased in the previous lottery. Additionally that would mean that $2,000,000 would have been sucked out of the economy. If there were $1,000,000 in the pot, who WOULDN'T purchase a ticket, especially if noone buys a ticket the $1,000,000 pot would actually completely vanish and be another $1,000,000 sucked out of the economy. I have NO doubt that this will be a better money sink than the current linear sink that is the current logic. Of course people that don't play the lottery will actually still be better off, but, it will make it a lot harder for people that do play the lottery to resist. Heck, I would suggest that even if no tickets were purchased that a minimum default amount be used as a seed to encourage someone to purchase that first ticket. Maybe the minimum could be based on the number of people on the server at the time so that if there is only 1 person on the server they can't really make money by just playing the lottery with noone else on the server. Maybe that minimum could be $50 per person on the server. Or maybe some more complex algorithm. Let us call the number of people on the server N. Then some possible minimums could be: N*N dollars, N*N/10 dollars, or something complex like case N<100: N*N;case N<200; (N-100)^2 + 10,000;case N<300: (N-200)^2 + $20,000;case N<400: (N-300)^2 +$30,000. Any Other Information: I don't know if this is something that can be done. It depends on what kind of custom programming you actually do on this server, which seems like a bit. But, I'd be willing to do the coding and send the code changes in for you all to review and use. I'd just need to see any code that helps drive this in order to make the modifications. I liekz ur matz. But seriously, great suggestion. I find that there is no inspiration for playing the lottery, especially when there is a lack of users online (then again, I don't play the lottery). I'm 100% sure md_5 and KHobbits would be able to code this, so they should look at this. However, I do have one question. Assume this situation is happening: 100 tickets bought, and a winner was chosen, let's say $5k is now put into the next pot. What if no one buys tickets the next pot? I'm assuming the money will be directly transferred to the 3rd pot?
Actually, under what I have laid out here, if NOONE buys tickets for that pot, then the $5k would just disappear. That might not be obviously stated, but, it is stated in paragraph 2 under reasons.
It's "no one", not "noone", but I get your point. If the 5k disappears, then there will no longer be incentive during that time to buy a ticket :/
