Sure, this might be nice, but I sometimes would like to view things anonymously. So, unless there is a way to keep it anonymous (even if that means keeping it the same) I would personally prefer that.

In general, I like to be anonymous, so no. Only for staff apps +1

 

Would this be something you'd have to click on to see or would it show up automatically? This could be an issue for those 1000+ view threads.

Nah, but I would prefer my name to be anonymous when I do research on a person. And, as dumdum said, it's personal preference.
