Minecraft Name: D0rc Suggestion: A new section on the forum under General, maybe a subforum under general discussion, or a new name for help/support, that is specifically for any questions a user may have, (I know most can be answered by twitter/forums/wiki, but you'll see where I'm going in a second.) as well as just a general rework/cleanup of the forum Reason: I'm going to link every single thread in general on the most recent page that is simply asking a question, doesn't belong in help and support, and isn't generally discussing things. viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12730 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12696 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13103 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13116 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=12856 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13206 viewtopic.php?f=8&t=13258 7 out of...about 35. That's one 5th. One out of every 5 threads in that section is just a thread I'm not sure I want to read when checking the general discussion section. If you think about it, that's a lot of threads that don't have any place to go, seeing as they don't really belong in help/support either. One thing that could be done instead like I mentioned is to make the help/support section called something else, like help & support/questions/errors & bugs, just to make it so users have more of a place to put this stuff. I'm just tired of going to general discussion to see these threads that... Really should have another place. They still belong in help/support more than general anyway, but unless it's official that they go there, than they will keep going here. I'd just like these forums to be cleaned up a bit. Any Other Information: The other problem, is that the general discussion is also just being used as a place to dump a thread when someone doesn't want to take the time to find the right section, or they want more people to see it (Like town information.). Even though some people might not read a sticky, could we have one in there to remind users to make sure there is no other better section to put the thread? And make sure threads are getting moved to their respective sections more? Because honestly, I'm having a hard time finding very many threads on the first page of general discussion right now that actually belong there. I'm finding so many threads looking through there right now that are advertisements to peoples towns, questions about black screens, questions about... well, anything, asking for removal of LWC, looking to buy plots in a town, tutorials, even things that belong in wiki team discussion section... It never ends. These things all have another place. I know general discussion's description is "Anything related to the EcoCityCraft server!", and that it's technically not the wrong section, but still... By that logic, ban appeals belong there In short, I think the forums need a little cleanup/rework, and with the new background, I think this is the right time to do it.
We briefly talked about this IRL, but I forgot to post... Each thing is essentially a suggestion on its own.. I just think it would help moderation (at least for me), and help to organize things for everyone. Easier to find specific "sales," shortens the forum scroll length - making it easier for people to find what they want without being overwhelmed, therefore posting in the wrong areas - and overall better for people who only keep updated with certain things, but don't want false hope each time the "new post" icon thing changes... Larger forums need more organization, and it makes a big difference in the long run. At least, that's what I've noticed over the past several years. :/ • Aether and Nether should be subforums of General Discussion; example being how Price Suggestions are a subforum of Suggestions. • Some kind of subforum in General Discussion for things like that Hunger Games, Mard's Ore thing, and other similar "community events" could be helpful and reduce clutter - also make moderation easier. • Basic Tutorials should be a subforum of Help & Support. • Help & Support / Errors & Bugs could be broken up, too - Make a Help forum, then have that basic are for "I don't know exactly where this goes" kind of help, then within that have subforums; Help & Support | Errors, Bugs, & Glitches | Basic Tutorials / Guides. • Competitions forum and Sales forum combine into "Competitions & Sales." Would have subforums for Advertisements, Wanted/Selling, Job Searching, User-Run Events/Competitions, and Server-Run Events/Competitions. • Ban Appeals / Complaints one general section (maybe change title, I don't know) and make each thing (ban appeals and complaints) their own subforum.
