Accepted [Suggestion] First Join Messages

Btw we dont need a plugin its part of essentials we use to have this but when the server was popular we turned it off with join and leave msgs due to spam but now the server is Small i see no reason to not turn it back on.

I remember my first few moments of ECC and can totally relate to this. Logging onto the server for the first time, I expected a greeting from the friendly community of ECC. Instead, no one noticed me. Not even @Joseph01234. I felt alone. It almost made me announce my loneliness in the global chat. @volcarona955. I took a long, 15 minute break to relieve my stress and spin my figget spinner.

When I came back, I felt better. I was glad to be a part of the EcoCommunity and started farming the beens to make cash, with the goal of ending my loneliness once and for all by making some ECD.

I will always remember the first moments of my journey as being a lonely member of EcoCity and do not wish this punishment on anyone else, not even @TalLopez himself. Please make this happen.

I remember from playing other servers that use this, when I would join and the welcome message would go off I would immediately get several messages from players wanting me to join their towns, I think something like this would be very useful.

 

It's not even 6AM yet and I'm tired, so I may be making a mistake here:

Player files are cleared after long periods of inactivity due to the file cleanup policy, which means a first-join message would have the same issue as /seen - you wouldn't be able to tell whether the player has never joined before or simply left for a long¹ time.

I honestly don't care if the player is new or inactive, there should really be a welcome message that lets people know when someone has joined or returned and would allow people to welcome new or returning players and help them.

Yeah, I never really was told what happened to it too. I used to enjoy the welcome messages. I think it was removed back when a ton of players were coming in and it was spamming up chat.

 

+10000 Yes, I love this, I love greeting and helping new players, this would simply make it easier!

 

I remember that plugin on a server I once was on (and left for good after a month), that it said that somthe one joined or not. We all know the pros, here are some cons that I feel may happen:

-Players may automatically feel they should deserve the servers attention at all times, which usually lead to a lot of cheating to get money and rank up
-There is the builder bonus, which also helps the players go on forum, and to receive money without forum can be a loss for ECC
-The welcome back mechanic may be tough if you are just trying to play alone for a bit
-Spam. It's awful.

I feel that the welcome back mechanic should be used for new players only, or else it will probably be used for something bad.

I've never seen this on other servers and like a lot of people have said it can cause spam I agree with @ZevZero thought it seems like a great idea

Adding a short join message for new players would have about 1/3 as many messages as the lottery and would make up about 1.27% of all chat messages.

On average we'd see one join message every ~8 minutes⁴, although it's going to be a smaller interval during peak time.

+1 This would be good, for all the good reasons stated above. As for the cons: yes, they are true, but they are also secondary to the pros imho

 

I would also like to add that the kind of attention you may get is rather unhealthy, and may add to loneliness. Because if a builder is welcome with full force and then the next time the log on are ignored, then it may be bad? I mean, first impressions are important but the rest is much more important.

 

That's a very good point, players may recieve positive attention only to be ignored from there on out. However, I feel that this may very well be a two-way street. In some cases, it is up to the player to take the initiative and slowly try to blend with the community. After all, a lot of time on ECC is spent alone, grinding away at some farm. I feel that a welcome message would be a great first step, as it would not only notify us staff members when to step in and be ready to help, but it would also give the player interaction that would otherwise be non-existent (if any).

 

To add to poke; new players almost immediately get accepted into towns. If they into a town anything like mine they have tons of opportunities to blend with the community. It's just a matter of whether they like the server enough to hang around.
