Minecraft Name: - AdiNec1 Suggestion: - Have an EcoCityCraft server in tekkit. Reason: - I would like to see EcoCityCraft in tekkit, so we can have fun together in a more Automate world with alot more stuff. If Andrew affords it, this new server could attract even more players in the EcoCityCraft's community, it could even have some donation features. What do you guys think? Do you think it would be nice if we had a Tekkit server too? Any Other Information: - Give your opinions in this thread, would you like to see EcoCityCraft on tekkit? Link To This Plugin: - http://www.technicpack.net/tekkit/
I didn't read that you wanted this as a 2nd server. Tekkit is fun but if anything it would need to be a small server with heavy security and I have my doubts Andrew would want to setup another server. Hosting is expensive and without donations the server would cost more to run than it brings in. Let alone doubling the work to run and maintain it. RagMan
Yes, to play on a Tekkit server you must download the Technic Launcher. I think this would be awesome if we had another server for tekkit. It would need a smaller player cap though, something like 20-30. It would also need to be whitelisted to prevent random grief. And while I'm in full support of this awesome idea, because I love playing Tekkit, it would be hard to have. Andrew already spends a lot of time working on ECCs server and having a second server would add a lot of extra work. It would also cost money to host another server since I doubt Andrew would want to run a second server on the same box as ECC.
+1 but economy wouldnt work. You macerate blaze rods, then get 5 powder, use 2 of them to make another rod: unlimited EE. So yea unlimIted items
It would be awesome if it was possible. It's more work though... A lot more work. Balancing it, squashing the various exploits, finding out what is and what isn't over powered, like Gem armor... Waiting for mods to update, finding/installing/updating the plugins... Also, if there was a tekkit server, I highly doubt it would be economy like the main EcoCityCraft is. It just wouldn't work. We would have to configure things like EMC values to be equal to the economy if EE is enabled, and setting all those new prices... Not to mention it's ever possible to make more and more money, just build a bigger factory that generates more and more items per second. It's not limited to that one guy anymore, so it's extremely easy for people to be making massive amounts more money than everyone else if they have time on their hands. On top of all this, the grief would be absolutely horrible... A ton of things explode on this thing, it's not hard to go into someones factory, switch a few items in a few machines around, and literally... Bam, all that work, gone in a now 200x200 hole in the ground. Nevertheless though, if everything was figured out and made to work properly, I'd love to see a separate EcoCityCraft server for tekkit.
This. Yup. If you break into somone's nuclear reactor, you can just remove the collant, add some uranium big badabummm I have tried several tekkit servers. My feedback: it's not worth it.I prefer to set a home server and play with my friends as it is extremly difficult to coordinate so many companies. It also leaves the wilderness completly destroyed (even more then our's). I have thought about this, but even though I am a big fan of the mod ( actually it's more then one mod), i don't think it would be a good addition. I would love to see other player's opinion on this suggestion.
I was going to suggest this, but it would ruin the economy. So, I completely agree with this. Maybe it could be like a separate world type thing if we can use the plugin like that? Like a technic world that you have to buy a rank for 20k to get into? If not, another server would be just fine.
I've had about a month of experimenting with having a tekkit server. Just something small that me and some friends could play on. Let me tell you it is a completely different animal (even with so few players), as far as dupes/glitches/items used to grief/lag causing . We had EE completely disabled and other things like nukes and tnt disabled. It is also possible to disable the explosion power of nuclear reactors and machine explosions. Also, almost all of the Bukkit plugins work for tekkit servers if you get the right version of the plugin so there could still be ranks, grief protection, etc. Dynmap even supports the tekkit items on the livemap now. Most everything is configurable and can be taken out and/or blocked that is harmful to a server. You guys are right though, it would have to be kept to a lower amount of players (prob under 50-60) and a lot of things disabled or limited, such as world anchors/teleport tethers, and most of EE if not the entire thing. The more people running expansive and complicated machinery the more lag. D0rc is also right about the economy portion. It can be done but it would never be the same as the economy that Andrew has built up on vanilla minecraft. You always need people to have goals and again, as D0rc said, there really is an end-game type moment after you've got everything so automated that you don't really have to do anything. After that you'll lose interest if you don't have something to work towards. The economy aspect is what has kept me playing ECC for so long. It could be done to some extent with paying for protected areas and being able to sell a limited amount of the more rare items to the server for money to purchase land/protections, either with Towny or Residence plugins. Having said all that, I would really like to see this happen and have even heard Andrew mention in vent that it might happen in the very far future. Let's keep our fingers crossed that it becomes a real possibility!
Of course, EE (equivalent excahange) and random crap as nukes, mining lasers and all that should be disabled. The server could be for mayors + with a cap of 30 players if andrew can do it.
No economy system, this is will make the configuration too hard. Users could just trade if they really want (item for item). This is why I suggest an white-list, to prevent grief or "accidents" by tekkit begginers.
What about a new donation? 25$ ECC tekkit server slot pre-order. With the money from these pre-orders andrekm could set up a small host 20-30 persons. Once the beta server was up, people who had purchased a slot could help staff eleminating all possible bugs and glitches. Items to remove would be all EE, anchors, quarries, lasers and quantum armour. I havent playied for a while so those are all I can remember. That being done the server would be up for public. You could buy a slot for 50$ and mayor rank would be required. As it as been stated in this post, we would need a completly player bases economy, pvp enabled in the wild and some form of land protection that doesnt envolve applications, to save our staff the trouble. So yes alot of work but it would be imensly compensating.
the main reason i dont play on ecc as much is from alot of the tekkit mods are fun to mess with and build so having a server that has people you talk to and is tekkit would be great
I hate to be a pain, but I would really like more discussion on this thread. There are alot of tekkit fans out there like me, who love the ECC community, but wish to play the mod on a server and therefore need to find another one. I would also like to point out that, with a bit of hard work a tekkit version of ECC could become really popular due to the fact that all the other servers that use this mod... are not really well structured.. the community is not near as stable and united as ours.. basicly they're pretty crappy. ECC could really stand out here.
In the same way, if it's not successful here right off the bat (Which it's near impossible to get perfect without any 'testing') then the community here could go bad too. If it fails then there will be issues, complaining, pressure on Andrew to 'fix' things left and right, etc. Even a single dupe issue that wasn't know right off the bat... There are so many things that could go wrong that will only make things worse on the server. Doing something like this is a risk for reward thing. If it's done perfectly, then it will be a great addition. However, a few mistakes and there could be complete chaos.
