Many online games and servers have Facebook pages, so why not us? Why? Facebook is a social networking site launched in 2004 that has almost 1 billion accounts. By adding a page for this account, we can reach out to millions of people. Many games and servers have been successful largely due to the fact that their Facebook page inspired new people to join. We currently do not have an official EcoCityCraft Facebook page. Our current advertising only reaches out to Minecraft voting sites. How can this generate publicity? When a user "Likes" or "Comments" on a Facebook post, it is seen by their friends, which may inspire them to join the server. A server with many "Likes" or "Comments" on Facebook will also look more appealing to those looking to join a popular server or looking for games via the Facebook search. To encourage people to participate in our server's Facebook page, we could host contests on our Facebook page which could include, but may not be limited to, raffle prizes to those who "Like" our server, prizes to those who generate the most likes by "Sharing" our server, and prizes to those who post the best screenshots of our server. How will this help? The friends of EcoCityCraft players will see that their friend has "Liked", "Shared", and posted comments on our server. New players would flock to the EcoCityCraft page and see the awesome screenshots and the huge amount of "Likes". Minecraft players would want to try out this awesome server, while others may be inspired to buy a Minecraft account. Anybody with questions about this server can ask on the page. They can see previous updates and poll results of the server. Veterans of the server can post their experiences and inspire new people to join. This will help our community grow and branch out of the forums. Wouldn't this take a lot of work? Yes, and no. The initial starting of the page would take some effort to make it look appealing. All the server's information would have to be added. But once this is complete, the page can start growing. We can ask our current community to "Like", "Share", and comment on our page, while offering a "bonus" to those who contribute the most. We could also start a EcoCityCraft Facebook Team to answer questions, post new updates, and host polls and/or contests. This team would be similar to the EcoCityCraft Wiki Team. This sounds cool. How can I help out? If you like this idea, feel free to vote on this poll and add your comments below.
If you are referring to this, then I would like to inform you that this is a group, not a page. Groups are a small community of peoples/friends, while a page is the official Facebook site for a product or server.
The server is full half of the day so it doesn't need more people. Facebook is wider community so it wouldn't really work as an advertising platform. The voting sites are targeted at people who plan on playing on smp, that's how I found ecc, I wouldn't go searching Minecraft server on Facebook before the voting sites. Who wants people you meet online looking at your Facebook profile? to be honest if we had a Facebook page I wouldn't like it even know I like ecc.
Alright, so you don't want this server to expand and wider community? And here's some stats for you. 40 million people have registered Minecraft accounts, 7 million people have bought the game, and 4 million people have "Liked" Minecraft through Facebook. The current number of registered EcoCityCraft users is less than 10,000. There's 39,990,000 other Minecraft players out there, 6,900,000 other Minecraft users out there, and 390,000 other Facebook users out there. And if you don't want your "Likes" and "Comments" to be shown to your friends, there's always the option to hide it from your friends. The only option that needs you to share with your friends is the "Share" button.
What I'm saying is advertising "come to out server that you can't log in too because it's full" is pointless. Then people may comment "This server is crap, it's always full" which wouldn't help. While using Facebook may bring new uses it hardly seems worth it. Think you missed my point. Maybe a Facebook page would be good if it posted the news posts automatically. In terms of advertising I don't think it is necessary but if someone is prepared to maintain it then I wouldn't have a problem with it, I personally wouldn't use it I might like the page I may not.
This. And I'm sure that it will be well-maintained. We have a huge active community, and it's not too hard to find someone who would be dedicated to this job.
Decided I should bring this back into discussion as I think it is a good idea. 18 users also agree with this. No intention of necro-ing.
I vote yes but there are a few points I am concerned about Firstly this seems to be all centered around advertising the server onto another social media, just seems to me that this is to spread the server like a virus? Idk maybe I'm the only one concerned about this And I think if we advertise even more too many new players will flood the server and may cause some excruciating lag and overflow the server. Overall I am in favor of this Facebook thing but I really hope it doesn't turn into just a advertisement tool.
But still it's quite let's just say annoying to see a lot of builders to go on to the server to just spam
Yeah I guess so, it would provide more reason to donate too if the server was always full and spammers can be handled of fairly easy /kick _____ xD But with the server full andrew can get more money to support the server Btw I'm changing my signature watch it
With spam, most of it happens in local spawn. For advertising, there is nothing wrong with it. Only if you spam other severs. I see this as a more social aspect for the server. An area to spread and grow the community so we can become the largest server ever!
