Minecraft Name: @jmichael214 Suggestion: Bring back town/nation chat channels Reason: I and my players have built, over the last four months, an 800x600 block city made up of 13 towns (so far). Local chat really just does not cut it. I planned all this out knowing that the chat channel option existed, then it was removed. It was suggested that we use "party chats" as a substitute. We tried that. It's wretched. For example -- anyone who is part of any other party, who wants to go exploring as a party, boom. Out of the chat. A couple of mods are residents of the town and hang out sometimes. It would be nice if there was a chat channel they could just tune out when they need to. It was just a great -- essential -- feature to have if you're building a big city like ours. Any Other Information: I am sad. Why not make me not sad? Link To This Plugin: No idea. But we had this option until a couple of weeks ago. Can we explore having it again, even if it becomes much more expensive or uncommon?
+1 I'm not sure why they were removed either. I was considering getting a town chat channel for my future pres town, but not anymore, I guess. I'd like to see them added back. If a staff knows the reason they were removed, could you please share?
+1 As a resident and now mayor of an adjoining town, I'd like for us to all be able to chat again. We used to help each other all the time, but now it seems less possible because we are all so far away, or at the very least very often out of local range.... One of the points of this server is to have a good community, it helps boost economy and just makes it a much better place to play. I'm not sure why this feature was disabled, or what it would take to have again, but I am very behind this suggestion. I do hope this isn't some side affect of the eventual expansion of the server network, I wouldn't want some sections to suffer just so more can thrive. In fact, in light of this expansion, I think approving town chats will help keep the community tight knit if expansion is coming...
+1 I was really looking forward to having a town chat, because now that our towns are expanding and there are so many of them, We cant possible stay in local chat range anymore. I would love to see town chats re-added, because it makes life much simpler for those of us part of or living in large multi-town cities. I'm not sure as to why this was removed in the first place, all I read was that there would be an announcement over it soon, but that has not happened. I really hope to see that town chats come back someday, hopefully soon.
I believe they were removed due to preparations for the multi-server network. I will talk to phys and andrew about this as I believe that private chat channels are a great thing to have for the community.
Don't get me wrong. I love the server, and I think things are going great. I enjoy playing here. I just hope that something is in the works that will allow a channel of communication for "nation" members across a big city like ours. I'll shut up now.
+1... I am totally on the side of adding these back... I am a member in Lancaster and Chat just gets built up like crazy and can get very hard to read... Im sure @jmichael214 has delt with a lot of this over the time of starting Lancaster. There are so many members in this town that it seems like it is a necessity to have a town chat channel. Anyway... Add'm back!
They were removed? +314 to bring them back! Could it be connected to the fact that they had to be added manually, thus consuming too much time?
They do have to be added manually But i think if too many people are applying for them, You could add some more requirements to applying, Like you have to have 4 towns close together in order to have one, or maybe only give so many out per month. Making them a rarer thing to have.
If they're hard to set up, I can see why it would be a pain to sell them to everyone who has a town that could just as easily be covered in local chat ... but forget four towns, we have a 800x800, with some gaps, space within which we can't reliably talk to each other any more. I don't think building a city that big should be disincentivized, should it?
So, on the cusp of a necro, I write. But this isn't just a simple +1 that bumps this thread. Oh, no. That'd be too easy. Enclosed is a long-winded response brought up by a guy who is, frankly, really pissed that the channels were removed for no apparent reason. And it's the nature of this removal that seems a little weird, honestly. Dead, without an announcement or message or anything. Even the staff don't know this was implemented, let alone the users! Come on! Stopping this without any announcement? I might be overstepping my bounds here but I'm tired and PO'ed and flicked off that cute little "think before you speak" switch so here goes. That's keeping the public misinformed. And when I mentioned this wonderful change, I got a lot of "Crap. I was planning on getting one.". And now they can't! But I digress. On to my main points as to why this should be brought back. First, this helps benefit and organize the community. Town chat channels bring a community together when local or global can't. Global is a fast-paced channel. It's the ranting grounds for upwards of 100 people daily. And connecting a town, even a small one, in that area is all but impossible. And to those that think that this has no use for small towns, you're wrong. What if the owner's off mining or somewhere else but his residents (as a group) want something? Balancing 3 users in pm is hard, bringing co-mayors into is is harder, and doing all this without a chat channel free of annoyances is impossible. But a chat channel would make it so much easier for residents, mayors, and co-mayors to interact without the hassle of /r, even if it is only one town with this channel. And this is the minority of channel applicants. A large amount have large towns. Which brings me to my next point. "Nice segue, Avaina1918!" Thanks, Mr. Builder. Here's 1k. But regardless of my excellent knowledge of the English language, tows are getting bigger. This is clearly evident in the case of @jmichael214 , the president of the most active town on ECC, a 13-town, 600x800 behemoth. And chatting there sucks. I'm a resident of his nation myself, and I have no idea as to what goes on outside of this confining 500-block area. With a town chat channel, @jmichael214 could expand his nation freely without fear of not hearing a question asked on the far corner of his empire. And this goes for the other tycoons with 600x600 or larger nations that want a chat channel. It's not just mayors, folks (and even if it was, they'll create bigger, better nations as time goes on regardless of their current rank and will do so in part because of the chat channel they'd have gotten if this was still available), presidents want it to. But regardless, what of far away towns? I myself am currently developing a set of 2 of my friends' towns that are far away from my Mayor town. If I had a chat channel, I could communicate with both instead of one-way pms. And this is the growing dilemma as nations not only become larger, but also more sprawling. So phys, if you increase the max town limit to allow 24 towns, why remove the backbone of that nation or prevent it from ever existing? And now for the main argument of the negators. "It's too hard for phys!" Well that's true, and considering I have never, can never, and will never manage a server as large as this one, I respect that. Thanks phys. Have a cookie. But eat that cookie knowing that there are people out there that still want something you yourself discontinued. And it may very well be not worth your time. Well, good ol' me has a solution! Raise the price! 40k is, honestly, way too cheap for something this powerful and influential. Make it 50k. 75k. Now it's worth your time! And you can now eat that cookie knowing you just put some loser's lotto money to better use. Good job. So in essence, town chat channels link small towns and large nations, towns close together or across both main worlds, users big and small. Why are you denying these future one per-centers the lifeblood of their future nation? I have no idea. So please, bring back what has made the great nations great! TL;DR +1, you heathen.
