Suggestion: I've been browsing the forums, especially the ban appeals, and ive noticed that the staff can be very blunt. Now I understand ban appeals are the staffs lowest prioity but I think that they should be a bit more polite. Now I know that the staff reply all the time and I understand that they have lives outside ECC but being polite is just nice and helps everyone get along better. I think the poilitness can bring the already strong ECC community even close together.

Also ive noticed how when people post necro posts on to other peoples thread that the thread is locked straight away. I think that the person who 'necroed' should recieve a forum warning and they should not be allowed to reply on that specific thread, rather than lock the whole thread.

Reason: I believe this will make the ECC community stronger and result in the staff having a better reputation

Other Information: Sorry if this ofdends anybody but I feel it is necessary to make people feel happier and that the staff do really care about you.

    Plugins: none

You soften the staff, you strengthen the violator. Honestly I feel the staff isn't hard enough sometimes, but if you make them more strict, that won't help the situation either. I'm used to dealing with real life people who don't care about you or how you feel a single bit. "Not my problem" kind of people. I think the mods are quite fair and sometimes give more chance than they ought to... But then again ECC has been here 3 years now, so they gotta be doing something right.

I totaly agree with the fact that the staff are very nice, I just think they should be a bit more polite sometimes but I understand what you are saying

Well, not everyone on staff is an adult, or good at English. Being polite is more difficult in English than in any other language I know. (German, Dutch and some languages I know, but can't speak)
Combined with the fact that we're also trying to be strict with users, being polite is rarely possible.
Have you ever seen a policemen arresting someone politely, can you imagine that happening?

Also appeals are basically users who broke the rules trying to get back into the community, THEY have to prove they're worthy of being unbanned. I don't see why we need to be polite in these situations.

I also believe that staff being more informal is a good thing, I myself hate it when people talk really politely, and I'm sure many others think similarly.

I think you ou may have misunderstood, my point here is that staff should be less blunt to people. And ive seen plenty of polite police officers.

Like I said, English is a difficult language to learn, people often only know how to speak informally or bluntly. Not everyone has the same level of tact and/or ability to speak politely.

Also, listening to the tone of someone's voice helps understand the exact context of what's being said. With reading what someone wrote its really hard to know what they're trying to portray because you don't know the tone of the monologue. Unless you've spent hours in a voice based chat, or know them IRL, then its about impossible to fully understand what they wrote in the way they meant it.

I think the way staff handle complaints/ban appeals is just fine. Bluntness, imo, is best suited for these situations.

You don't want there to be ambiguity when talking about the rules, violations, bans, etc. In these situations it helps to be very matter of fact so that there is no confusion.

Being blunt is also being straight to the point, which is absolutely key so that people understand what they are told. Straight to the point can be polite, too. Being strict can be blunt, not blunt, polite, or rude. Overall, everything overlaps - they are layers. Language is more complicated and complex than people believe.

The only bluntness I see from ECC Staff is very, very mild compared to the majority of games, servers, forums, and websites. As well, someone can be blunt and polite at the same time.

Not to mention that everyone has their own writing, just like everyone has their own handwriting, art style, accent and tone of voice, etc... Just because someone's written word seems blunt does not necessarily mean that they are being blunt.

As for the necroing thing... Locking threads is the best course of action. A while back necros were handled just by a warning and no thread lock, but it really did not stop anyone from further necroing or trolling. Locking threads is the best way to stop it. It's not like the thread is disappearing or anything; it's still on the forum to be viewed.

This suggestion made me smile :) Our staff here on ECC is by far the most polite and caring staff I have ever seen on any server.
Perhaps you have seen bluntness when you see the same player appeal 3, or 4, or more times in a matter of a few minutes or do not follow simple directions for how to appeal? Perhaps you have seen bluntness when players continually post on complaints that have no reason to? Perhaps you have seen bluntness when players curse the staff or are exceptionally rude to them?
Being blunt should never be confused with being impolite or rude.

The keywords in your statement is "at times". When need be, the staff have every right to be a little rude/impolite., although I rarely see that happen. If you have a problem with the way staff handle things, file a complaint directly to andrew.

Naturally I would agree with TaylorBros22. An efficient and polite server staff is a desirable server environment. While I think courtesy is important in some respects, when it comes to appeals and complaints, it is important that the message from staff be clear to the appeal-ant, and to the general community. I am not saying that messages don't have to be courteous; I'm only saying that if not written right, the integrity and gravity of an important message can be lost to euphemism and overzealous decorum.

I only would like forum games, suggestions and a few other forums to be immune to necro locking.

As for the bluntness, staff can be mean sometimes. I've experienced it before. I don't find it to be a huge issue, so won't really respond to that.
Blaming it on language? Really? ECC has stated english is the main english and to be very "blunt" if you aren't very good at English than you shouldn't end up on staff.

Alright, so when people get banned lets forget they are actual human beings and stop being polite to them and treat them wrongly.

I can be good at English, but that doesn't mean I'm good enough to write politely. I, as someone who has English as a second language, can't properly write things politely. This is simply because it's difficult in English, even for native English speakers, and especially for those who don't speak English natively.

We don't treat them wrongly, we're just more straightforward with them.

What you're suggesting is for the staff to kiss the asses of people who break the rules. Seriously? They got banned, they should be taking pictures of themselves crying on their knees to get back in.
