Suggestion: When a user appeals, and a mod asks them to copy and paste the rule they broke, they should not copy it directly from the wiki, but copy and paste the rule, and then write it in their own words.

Reason: Let's be honest, copying and pasting does nothing, the user doesn't even have to read the rule they broke, just find it. Having them re write it makes them read and think about the rule, as well as what it means in their case.

Any Other Information: You don't learn from your mistakes by simply copy and pasting.

+1, I think this would help make sure players understand what they've done wrong.

I was thinking about this. I agree it doesn't show they feel bad but only shows their ability to ctrl+f and copy and paste.

While I think this would work for some players, we don't always ask players to state the rule they broke. This is a minecraft server, a ban appeal shouldn't be like homework, imo.

It doesn't need to be. It would take a few minutes to do this, but it shows the effort is there and they care about the server and getting back on.
And obviously it wouldn't work for players who don't need to put the rule in... They just wouldn't need to do this. I am not suggestion EVERY appeal needs to have this, but if someone is required, why not make it more than a copy and paste?

I misunderstood, I thought you meant every appeal. Perhaps we could do this for some repeat offenders.

The only thing I don't get is "some" part. Why just some repeat offenders? Obviously I think that people should show they want to be here. Copying and pasting a rule is a major part in some appeals, so I just think think this could be a way to have them prove they want to come back.

I personally don't think it would be necessary for all repeat offenders. Maybe 3rd time appeal for same thing. There are other ways to prove you want to come back than a (for lack of a better word) "essay" on the rule you broke.

I agree with Clou, this seems like a great idea but only for repeat offenders or more serious offences

It doesn't have to be an essay. This could take maybe... 3 minutes.
I have a question for you, what is the actual point of people putting the rule they broke on their appeal?

The copy and paste method is usually used when people have been banned for breaking a rule before, and they say that it will never happen again and that they read the rule, but then they do it again anyway. It is just a way to make sure that they have been to the rules website, and that they (should) have definitely read the rule this time because they had to find the right rule and copy paste it. It also makes people take responsibility for ignoring a rule if they end up doing the same thing a 3rd+ time.

Although, I do understand where is coming from..

...a lot of people don't read anything anymore. Yet alone understand what they are reading at times.
Who can blame them with a whole Wiki of rules and guidelines, when what people are really here for is to play Minecraft, and not read a book.

If they do not understand the cause for they have been banned for, and the rules they have been referred to, and still want to know why, they can and should ask for a clarification.

The Admins are most volunteers to my knowledge, why make things even more complicated?

All the rules have their obvious place and reason, although some can always can be adjusted and shorten to basic common sense. That would save us a lot of reading and writing, and screenshooting...

    Communication is key!

There is actually a common sense rule :p See if you can find it, lol.

Anyway, back to the suggestion, I'll talk to some of the staff about this and see what they think. We might end up adding this in a little to see how it works. :)

Isn't that the one that's along the lines of, "Use common sense, don't abuse loopholes, etc"?

anyway, I think it would be interesting to at least see this tried out a little bit, and see what happens.

Give them a virtual chalkboard and make them write it out with their mouse 100 times!!!

    Carpal-tunnel will teach 'em.

I don't think implementing this to repeat offenders would be a BAD thing. Like others have said, an essay isn't neccesary, but having an explination in their own words would hopefully help the comprehension of the rule.
