MineKidCraft and I were talking about putting together a planned, concentrated effort into finding and hunting down mob spawners in the mining and the nether worlds. The intention is to bring XP prices back up. If you are interested in joining this posse, please answer the poll and then list when your best availability would be. If possible please list your donation features that would aid in this hunt. Also spread the word http://tinyurl.com/spawnerhunt If you would like to argue against spawner breaking feel free to make cogent, non-inflammatory arguments in this thread. I would like to have a discussion on the subject, but only if it's constructive. If you vote no, please explain why in a post below.
I have /near, water, tp, and multihome. This would help so I can find people sitting at spawners at MineKid said.
I have multihome, water+,pyro+,and teleport. I'd be able to swim through lava and hang out underwater. I'd also be able to teleport people somewhere if needed, then return to my original spot, using multihome.
I would like to join, but I do not have any donation features. I am I good miner, and I know people with the donation features required to find people sitting at spawners
I think this is a bad idea. I had a quad spawner, and someone came straight from the surface, down to each one, and clocked them. I was very upset. It had taken several hours to set up, and modify. I don't sell my exp. I store it. Some people, even new players, work very hard to get a spawner, and it feels really bad when people destroy them. If you don't like the price that exp is selling at, please don't ruin the experience for others. You can find other effective methods to make money. The other thing you could do, that is not so destructive, is to contact all big sellers of exp, at both the market and elsewhere. Create an organization, like OPEC. Form a coalition to keep exp prices above a certain price point. That is constructive, and probably would be more interesting to see play out than simply destroying people's hard work.
I've tried this, but I realized it wasn't going to work. A higher price would result in less people buying it, if the supply would exceed the demand too much then the stores have to either lower their price or stop buying altogether, if they stop buying instead of lowering the price then they would make less money in the long run. So the most beneficial option would be to keep the price low. This is why people should hunt spawners, because it's the only way to manipulate the price.
cornering the market, any market does not will not can not will never work. There will always be an individual willing to accept slightly less. That is not how economics work on this server. I am sorry for your frustration and the loss of a spawner and the hard work it took/takes to set one up. But nothing is safe in the mining world or the nether. Everything is on the table. The fact that you "aren't selling it" is irrelevant because you are still going to use it for everything that the people that are buying it are going to use it for. Its strictly one of the very few ways users can go about having an effect on the XP market. When XP is worth something again (i.e. above $1) maybe people will be less likely to destroy spawners. Maybe when there isn't a glut of xp being sold by every Tom Dick and Harry on the server, and the XP hoarders have exhausted their supply, there will be no need to Seek and Destroy. Until then. It's game on from my point of view. I would ask you to remember that it's not personal.
I will join this posse. I've always wanted to be a member of a posse. I have every useful donation feature for this: /near, fly+, /j, /v, /disguise and anything else i'm not thinking of.
