Should Horse Stealing Be Allowed? [Poll]

yes because we need to learn to grow up in life and to learn to loose stuff.

 

Sad to say that it is part of the game, so it has to be allowed

 

Why should it be allowed? First off, they earned the horse, they should NOT have it stolen! Second, they will be upset if they lost it.

Well obviously if someone steals your horse you would be upset but sometimes in life you just got to suck it up.

 

I think that if horse stealing is going to be allowed, then the price for an egg should be lowered. It seems kind of ridiculous paying 30k or so and having it get stolen 15 minutes later.

 

How is horse stealing any different than other forms of stealing? ANY kind of theft, or taking something that does not belong to you should not be tolerated or allowed. I honestly do not see how this is any different than someone stealing blocks from a town, or intercepting a trade. If we allow horse stealing, its basically encouraging people to go out and look for horses to steal. There will be no consequences for something that is morally awful. Horse stealing should be %100 illegal and severe consequences should happen.

As much as I agree with you, here are the counter points:

When mobs were enabled way back over a year ago, it was your responsibility to keep them safe, and that is what it is now with horses.

Intercepting trades is allowed.
Taking items from an unlocked chest is allowed.

(Those two being examples of stealing).

Also, horses are entities, there is no way to track who has which horse, and where that horse is at that time. Thus making it impossible for the staff to enforce a rule that makes this illegal.

Once again, I see your point, however with how things are setup it wont work, and technically some sorts of stealing are legal.

For all users who have horses, I suggest you lock them up in a area nobody else can get to, and make sure you dont tp users there.

 

To add to that, it wouldn't be a bad idea to name your horses with name tags right away. That way if your horse were to be stolen then it would be easier to prove that someone stole it

 

You can change the names of horses.

 

I would ne'er steal a horse anyway... It's just a horrible thing to steal from someone else's hard work. It should defiantly not be allowed!

 

No-one wants their stuff to be stolen, from horses to blocks or anything. The sad truth is though that there will always be the few heartless people who will do this, and it's simply too hard to track down/stop.

I am going to add onto what Pbrassat has said. 1) I do think this is morally wrong. I abhor the theft of horses. That being said, this is from a staff point of view.

1) Please prove to me this is without a doubt your horse
2) Please prove to me the horse they stole was said horse

There is currently no way to prove these types of things, but, I do have a suggestion I have been brewing around in my head to help avoid horse theft.

Finally, I have to say. Do you leave your chest unlocked and out in the open the get upset when someone steals? Don't leave your horse out in the open. Don't leave it in a position where it can be stolen. Don't allow untrustworth people around it and if you do, make sure there is a roof and no escape. My horse is kept in a very secure location for a reason. Horses aren't protected as much as they could be right now. I wish this could change but, at the moment the only plan is to protect them yourself.

It is impossible to track horses. Even if people badly want stealing illegal, it will not happen. Just like chests, trades, etc... There is no way to have proof the horse was ever yours.

Also: Horse prices will go down drastically in the coming weeks. Math says that everyone is likely to get one horse a month, if they vote every day on all the voting sites. That's not even counting the special reward of two horse eggs. It won't be long until horse prices are pretty cheap.

Although personally I would like it to be illegal, I already know why it can't be (Above quotes). It really does suck, but you can't really prevent it. I'm hoping saddle locking or horse locking or something will eventually happen, but that code may be impossible.
