Hello there good sir Andrew! First off, you're an amazing server owner, and by far the most active and hands on owner I've ever seen before.. I so much appreciate the amount of time and the actively updating the server, that you are always taking good care of it.. I have a few suggestions, one that I hear a lot of players talking about, and this is me speaking for many. 1. The random disconnections for updates, rollbacks, or any other thing you deem worthy of shutting down the server for 3-10 minutes for.. People have been saying that they would like some sort of broadcast warning system, that will let them know when the server is about to go down due to the possibility of losing very valuable trades, or pvp fights.. People have lost very nice items due to server disconnecting right as they were going to grab it in a trade, and in pvp, the lag would freeze players, while other's would just get lag and still be able to kill the other, having an unfair win.. PEople would like warnings for the server backups, and the ramdrive saves. 2. Another, I've heard questions about the ventrilo, and the possibility of having "paid for" Ventrilo channels, passworded for Town owners to buy for their town. It would allow them to have a private channel for themselves and their residents, and they would be able to have more organized functions due to them being able to get together on vent. So far this is really all I got for you! And I'd love to hear feedback from players and also mods, please be honest! Thanks!!
I think this would be pretty cool. He does give some warnings but in general I have noticed a few times that there would be no warning. It would be cool to have a warning every time. Even if it's just 30s prior to the shutdown. This could be a great idea, have the town Mayor+ 's fill out town apps and set a high price for the vent channel. Or even do it as a donation feature. I am just thinking of all the possibilities of a town chat channel. It would have to be expensive enough to limit the number of users getting channels, but a useful money-dump for the server.
I agree this is a great server and is well loved and maintained my its owner. But I would love a short heads up when restarts happen so that I can avoid trading or being somewhere dangerous. The vent Idea would be great to sell a vent channel for a large sum 100+k to mayors or presidents.
The ventrilo channel thing is something we used to have, it made ventrilo unorganized and people were secluding themselves from each other.
Also made it impossible for Moderators to moderate Ventrilo. Private channels have more cons than pros.
I am told ram disk saves at 1:20 am and pm EST. So expect lag at those times for several minuets. Other than that it's all done when needed.
simple fix on that is that all mods are giving the passwords and that is part of the deal All the rest of the stuff that is done as needed is what we are talking about. A 10 second warning on the button press that restarts it all.
i am not sure if anyone but andrewkm can do that. every other restart might be forced and unexpected or just a crash.
Er... it doesn't work like that. Would you want Moderators coming into your /Private/ channel just to "stalk" you and make sure you aren't breaking any rules? :/ Seems very intrusive. There were may reasons private channels were taken out, and they will not be added back. Especially now; hundreds of active users, probably a good 75+ towns by now. Even if expensive, it won't take long for there to be too many channels.
