There have been cases where a tool has been made completely obsolete. In the past, no action has been taken, because as shrink said, this is a hardcore economy server. However, due to the very expensive nature of melon swords, I bet that the staff team is discussing possible compensation options.
My best guess is that andrew will either find some possible way to disable axes breaking melons faster or getting a custom plugin made in order to make the speed with axes the same as they are now.
Well, markets change, so should the users of the server. I think that there's a pretty good chance of MSwords going obsolete and a new market popping up, but I may or may not be correct. We'll have to see about that. In the past, Andrew has nerfed things permanently just to stop people from getting rich from updates, but this will probably be interesting to see as a plugin/change to keep those with a msword from going broke would probably be a first.
He's not going to "screw everyone over". But, that'll be the case. He's not going to spawn millions upon millions of dollars into the economy to compensate you for the melon sword. The price you're asking for is about $950k. That's incredulous. I highly suggest you dump the pick off for $150k tops. There will be no compensation, at all.
I'm not sure about the no compensation at all bit, although it is possible. Due to the extremely expensive nature of melon swords, as I said above, I imagine the staff team is discussing possible compensation measures as we speak.
