So I run a MacBook pro, with nothing special on it. When I try to record, minecraft becomes leggy and the video is even laggier. What should I do to fix this?
You can try getting optifine for Minecraft or doing other things to increase it's performance. Also, what are you using to record? I'd suggest trying the Fraps trial and seeing how much that lags for you. (If you decide to use the full version of fraps (Which you might need depending on what kind of video you are making.) then it will cost a bit of money.) I made this video a while back using only the fraps trial, windows live movie maker, and my horrible, horrible computer. (With optifine.) With just some creativity, you can still make some great videos even with a small lag problem. (Which believe me, I had that.) If you are looking more to make let's plays or something, then you might have a lot more trouble. I only was able to make this by hoping I had no lag while recording, but recording for long periods of time (requires fraps full version) I would get a lag spike no doubt. How bad is your lag? Is it constant, or just a random spike of it here and there? If it's constant optifine might not help a whole lot and you might need something else to help along for performance as well.
I have OptiFine for Minecraft already. I use Screencast-o-Matic to record. About fraps, I have a Mac so I don't think that will work. :/ I am actually tryna record let's plays and stuff. And the lag is constant D:
Oh, D: I'm an idiot and didn't know you couldn't use it on macs. But in any case, I can't really help you there. I don't know any other specific ways to increase performance myself... I'm not amazing at this. I'm still trying to figure out how to allocate more memory/RAM to my Minecraft. I'm not sure I even can on this thing. >.>
Hey @monkeyBUTT244. I have a MacBook Pro as well. What program are you using to record your video? And what are your mac's specs?
I'm going to assume that your computer is intel. I'm not sure how screencast o matic works. There may be a setting where you can set up the output video amount. If it is recording and mixing at the same time, the program is going to bog down your computer. I suggest getting an app called iShowU. It costs money but you get your moneys worth and it's not quite that expensive. With iShowU, it captures your screen and saves it as a basic file, then later it mixes it and renders the HD for you. What gets me is, you have a MacBook Pro which is a powerful computer. You shouldn't have any lag. If you do, it's because the multi-threading may be working a bit too hard and your gpu isn't compensating. Just try the demo of iShowU and see if that works better for you. If it does, that's your problem. If not, post back here and I'll continue to help you more.
@rikari88 I actually used to have iShowU, and I switched to another program because it was causing so much lag. I am actually just using SOM to test and see if it works better. I've tried a bunch of different recording programs, and none of them seem to help. I just thought the storage was the problem, and I tried to record off something that WASN'T an app. It doesn't work, as I said, do I'm guessing storage is not the problem. (lol went from one topic to another ^^)
Ha. Good one. Actually macs aren't as bad as all the haters are making them out to be. Lol. I play mc with around 400fps when I play on ECC. I doubt what you just said is right at all.
Wait. You're saying that your mbp isn't multithreading (dual core)??? I don't see that as really being the reason although 1.2ghz is smaller than the average nowadays and could be your issue (doubt it though). You could clean up your computer by using a program called ccleaner. You could also make sure that you're only using those two programs (recorder and mc). Most importantly, try to find a way to dummy down the recording resolution. If you're recording in full HD, that could be the issue there. Try recording in a smaller resolution. Other than that I couldn't tell you without actually seeing it. I hope this helps you.
I run 1200+ fps on average with my alienware Oh Intel i7 extreme 8gb of ram 3gb graphics card Best peak on fps 2490 on sp
