Some of you may remember my previous post regarding Repeat Offenders (ROs). http://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/repeat-offenders.114653/ Hold on, we're going for another ride Since I wrote the first post, I have seen MANY threads started, opinions expressed, and ideas put forth to combat this issue. ***************** *Suggestions to make ROs pay money (ECC or Real) to pay their way out of being banned. This just leads to the rich being allowed to break laws... much like real life. Do we really need ECC lawyers? This is how you get lawyers. *Calls for the records that Staff uses to do their job to be made public so that everyone can see them. I see this making more work for the Staff AND having to make sure they don't write their true opinions IN those records. Their opinions / records would then have to be looked at and edited to make sure they don't hurt anyone's feelings. Ever find out, maybe by accident, what someone REALLY thinks about you? Did you enjoy the experience? *Requests for certain people to be removed from the Server because "they're always bad". Ever been punished unfairly because the person(s) in authority didn't listen to your side of the story? Do you really want a Staff that uses the Ban Hammer at the slightest provocation? If you read between the lines (notwithstanding the "appeal bumps"), the Staff discusses offences, sometimes at length. There is a sense of "let's not be hasty, but let's be sure" in the responses I've seen. *The Staff needs to use harsher punishments because the RO did it again. The Staff already does this. Every punishment is not meant to remove someone permanently. It's meant to encourage an offender from doing said offence again. For some people, their maturity level isn't high enough (reference ECCs average age) to let them learn the first time... or second (or third). Some people never reach that level of maturity. It happens. Their parents must be proud of their "stubbornness". For those that don't learn the first time, the "stick" gets bigger and heavier. Even murderers on Death Row (US) get appeals. Keep in mind, there are some very mature 10 y.o.'s on this server... and some older people that are not. *We don't know who to trust / The people new to ECC don't know that person X should not be trusted. No, we / they don't. Just like real life, it takes experience to get good at sensing someone's trustworthiness. I suppose we could mark them somehow, but this adds more work to the Staff. No one who volunteers to "Serve and Protect" wants to constantly check to make sure an offender still has their prison skin (or whatever) on. That's Orwellian (Google "1984" by George Orwell) ************************* Here's the deal. Not only can you ignore someone in game, you can also ignore all content from someone on the forums. It's in your account details under Settings, called "People you Ignore". The only thing WE have to see is silly stuff that ROs do, the Staff has to DEAL with it. Any complaints you may have should be handled by a) re-reading this post and / or b) PMing Phys directly with a Staff Complaint. I have stated this before: I do not play with, make contracts with, pay, buy from, sell to, interact with, or associate with anyone that _I_ consider to be a RO. Neither does anyone I consider my friends on this server... well, except for Staff. I figure Staff already HAS to deal with them, so being supportive of their life choices to be on Staff is all I can do (Please do not add anyone's name that you perceive to be an RO to any responses. Everyone already knows who they are.*grin*) So, can we put this to rest now? Do we need any more suggestion / opinion threads on how to make ECC into a "perfect world" that are already addressed above? And to those that will say "better watch your back, you'll get banned for expressing an opinion". If it happens, then this is the wrong Server for me. *shrugs* Although, it makes me wonder how much of an RO did they turn into to be that skittish / cynical that warning me is warranted? *wink*
If people follow the server rules, most of this is not an issue But... There are always the odd few...
I think people get "expressing an opinion" confused with "being a jerk and demanding unreasonable change." I really doubt you'd get banned for your insightful and (imo) fair thoughts.
