Recently while talking with my little bro, I noticed we were different in the way we mine. When he mines, he keeps his pickaxe all the way on the left of his hotbar, I keep mine to the right side. I found this odd, as he's 9, I'm 26. He usually tries to copy me in every way. Could this be a personality choice? Or is it just a random choice that happens when you first start the playing minecraft, and then you are in the habit of it being in that spot. I know there are times when my tool is not in either end of the hotbar, but those are specific cases for specific reasons. In general, if I'm not doing something specific, it's on the end. So I was just wondering what everyone else does with their tools, stuck this here for some insight, and maybe to draw some information out to maybe discover if there is a reason that people favor different sides. Thanks for your input!
right by the wasd keys for easy of change. i could mouse wheel but i only use that for block placements, not tool usage when i played wow, all of my healing spells were the 1-5 keys
My OCD dictates the order at most times(except specific job, etc): Bow - pick - shovel - axe - <whatever> - torches - baked potatos Sent from my NX008HD8G using Tapatalk
From left to right I have: pick, shovel, axe, sword, compass, empty (or other tool, like shears) empty, empty, baked potatoes.
I use far left because the 1-2-3-4 is already readily accessible; my fingers are already on the left because I use "S" and "F" for strafe left and strafe right, and I use "D" for backing up. My weirdness is that I use the right mouse button to Move Forward. I've been doing it that way for years.
1.Empty 2.Empty 3.Empty 4.Empty 5.Axe 6.Shovel 7.Pick 8.Water 9. Food (I keep a PvP axe, shears, and a sword in my enderchest and use /eec or /echest for ease of access to them.)
Just learned about /echest. Mind = blown. Anyway, it seems almost everyone goes pick/shovel/axe. Except me. 1. Shovel 2. Pickaxe 3. Axe 4. Shears 5. Sponge 6-9. Empty Sometimes I carry both fortune and sil touch picks. In that case they go together at 2 and 3, and the rest shifts down. Also, I don't carry weapons.
1. Shovel 2. Pick 3. Axe 4. Sword 5. Bow / Hoe / Empty (Based on if I am in the nether, farming, or neither) 6. Empty 7. Empty 8. Food 9. Torches While I generally don't carry torches or food anymore, that was how I kept my hot bar I've been using since I first got Minecraft. As for why I choose that order, 1-4 can be easily reached from wasd, and I can use the scroll wheel for the rest.
1. Silk Pick 2. Fortune Pick 3. Shovel 4. Axe 5. Compass 6. Ice block (For investigating) 7. Fishing Rod 8. Sponge 9. <Something> 10. Baked potatoes/Erepair powertool
Interesting topic. It looks like there is a "general consensus". When I have a Sword (Mining/Nether world): 1. Sword 2. Pick 3. Shovel 4. Axe 5. Shears (When in Mining World, otherwise in Enderchest) 6. Empty 7. Empty 8. Slimeball (/pt'd with "/repair all") 9. Cooked Potatoes (/pt'd with "/j") Without a Sword, just shift the tools a slot (any other time): 1. Pick 2. Shovel 3. Axe 4. Empty 5. Empty 6. Empty 7. Empty 8. Slimeball 9. Potatoes I used to always carry an enderchest and water bucket in my inventory, but have since stopped that.
I have a few setups, and they even vary... Depends on my mood, really. Usually I have my tools on the left for fast switching. Many years of MMORPGs has me in the habit of quick-switch and quick-active on what I use the most and find most important. However, when I have my tools on the right (reverse what I have below), it's because I am building, so my blocks are more important... Usually: 1. Silk Pick 2. Shovel/Fort Pick 3. Torches/Sword 4. Shovel/Fort Pick 5. Torches/Sword 6. Block (Dirt/Stone, for saving myself from lava /me is poor user without donations like pyro) 7. Empty 8. Empty 9. Food
