This isn't a server idea, but an event I was thinking of continually hosting at some point. I'd like some opinions on it. At first, I was just going to auction off randomly filled chests, but then I realised how easy it would be to be accused of scamming, so I came up with this: I'd have a booth somewhere (probably a town with portal access; spawnshop tax is too high for non-profit activities), buying small quantities of random items for much more than their regular price. At the end of a certain amount of time, I would have filled a single-chest with completely random things with varying values. I would then auction off this random chest in /ch auc. The people that have been keeping an eye out on my trade signs will have the advantage of knowing exactly how much the chest is worth. All signs would be up for at least a day, so everyone would have a chance of checking. They would also be proof that I have not edited chest contents. Of course, I'd keep a record of past chests, including their items, the total server-worth of the chest, and the amount it was sold for. In a way, it's kind of a lotto. I'd have a few chests worth up to 2k first, just to get some momentum going, but I'd like to be able to fill chests with up to 50k worth of value. I'm hoping weekly announcements of something like, "Congratulations to ___ for winning a random chest with a server-worth of 5k for $400" will start making people interested. I'm hoping to do the following: -Give people a chance to make a bit of money from selling things to me for more than they're worth. -Give people a chance to make money by snagging bargain chests. -Make people annoyed that someone got an "expensive" chest for next to nothing. -Make people annoyed that they bid so high on a chest worth almost nothing.
If you sell something in /ch auc, if asked, you have to disclose exactly what is being auctioned. Excellent idea, just needs a bit of tweaking.
First off, suggestions and ideas must be posted in the Suggestions forum here in the right format and also as Emau said, all things in Auction chat must be identified. What you are describing here sounds a lot like Storage Wars, where people bid on chests/lockers. I will be locking this thread up. If you want to continue a similar thread to this, please post it in the Suggestions forum with the link above in the correct format. There you can get proper feedback and opinions from other users. LOCKED edit - will be pm'ing you for the misunderstanding
