I know that name changes are not supported at all here, but I was wondering what would happen if, for example, I were to change my name, and then someone else changes their name to mine. What would happen? Would they get my .dat file? Would they be unable to join? Just something I was thinking of. Michael
If you change your name and say i really like your name and decide to take it ( not that i would ofc ;p). I would be unable to log in anymore and you would not be able to get your name back. This is what i've seen from twitter posts from mojang developers.
Hypothetically, what if someone changed their name before they've joined ECC for the first time? Would they be denied access? Sent from my NX008HD8G using Tapatalk
From what I've heard so far, I don't think so. I believe ECC records it only after you have joined the server for the first time.
Their UID would still different, so if ECC is doing a "UID/Username" match to allow access, it may also deny them depending on the code. At first I was thinking that for security (LWC, etc), that we would be denying access to anyone who took your username. But since people are now going to be able to create brand new accounts with that username if you give it up, I don't think that would be possible. Then I realized an easy fix would be for everything to be matched to your UID. This may be what happens already, and makes sense with 'nick' being a kind of name change. I don't know. If this is the case, then they may join, but they still wouldn't have access to any of your info/stuff.
