Item: Melon Block Data Value: 103 Current Price: $1.50 Suggested Price: $2.00-$3.00 Brief Description: At the moment, melon farming isn't a realistic way to make money. Even with an efficiency 5 sword with silk touch, I maxed out at about $12,000/hour. Users should not save up 1,000 netherstars just to make less money than pumpkin farming with an efficiency 5 axe. A bump to $2.00 makes melon farming maxed out at about $18,000/hour, which is around the maximum for pumpkin farming. A bump to $3.00 makes it about $24,000/hour, which I would lean more towards, since the sword itself is so valuable. This would give many users a reason for getting the sword, and being able to make the money back fairly quickly. Open Discussion: Price amount.
$3 would seem a bit unreasonable. The swords are relatively new as well as netherstars. although currently that puts the value of the sword at the price of about 200-300k, I expect that within a month when netherstars are in everybodies hands, the price of the sword will deflate greatly towards a more reasonable 30-50k (30-50 ecodollars per star). Making them $3 would probably destroy all other ways of money making and the market would inflate greatly. I agree with $2, however this has already changed to $1.5 recently and I doubt, even though there has been a bug, that even that would happen. :/
The thing is that right now, getting 1000 netherstars is nearly impossible, or at least costs quiet a bit. I paid around $500 for each netherstar, meaning that it was 500k. It may go down later, but when more get into the economy is when het price should be lowered. Why would I pay 500k for a sword just to have it make as much money as pumpkin farming? If the price was $2.00, that would be the case. Besides, shouldn't something other than pumpkin farming rule for awhile? It's not like pumpkin farming has been the best money source in ECC for 6 months+ or anything...
pump farming is about 15k/hour, zard and jets deserve the price to go to $3 because they paid so much! the price will stay at around $300-500 and therefore, the price should go to $3, atleast for this month, while stars are still high
After farming melons with the best obtainable tool, efficiency 5, silk touch 1, Unbreaking 3 pickaxe, I got 1.5k per 15 minutes.
It's awful with a pick, but I'm using the sword (Tool that normally breaks melons). The breaking speed is a bit less than walking speed, as a reference.
+1 - It needs to go up, I got about $1,750 with the unobtainable sword per 20 minutes, and that's pretty focused farming. Also, we must bring Server lag / ticks in the matter... And the fact is, no matter our TPS, there will always be lag subsiding the speed we farm at. This is a fair suggestion in my mind, coming from a non-bias point of view, hence I don't Melon Farm myself.
Understood, I guess I'm not familiar with how fast they actually break but if its less than walking speed you might be on to something. I still must favor my original post because I strongly believe that the price of netherstars will sharply fall as making 4k voting seems ridiculous and may inflate the entire market. Maybe $2 is too low. I Still don't think 24k/hour should be available as it seems like it would cause many problems over a long period of time when everyone has a sword. $2.50 perhaps? that would make 20k, and seeing to the situation... right now that may be an alright choice for what is now a 300-500k sword.
Actually, it will inflate absolutely nothing, because it's a user-user economy, completely controlled by users. And $2.50 would make 15.4k, not 20k. (I tested it with the sword and a melonfarm)
Why should melon prices change? You decided to buy the sword...it's a choice that YOU made. Server prices are changing a lot recently, when server prices change it's not a user-user economy. If you are unhappy with how much money you make farming a certain thing then change to something else. Why does everyone think that everyone else should make the same thing as they make? Does a doctor make as much as a maid?
They just made the price $2.25. I was farming pumpkins up until this point, instead of melons. Using this sword, which was the first of it's kind, mind you, the price was subject to change. If you spend 500k on a sword, and made half what pumpkins do, you'd want the prices changed too. Since when is farming pumpkin that much harder than farming melons? This is not a correct example to support your argument.
How in the world do people make so much pumpkin farming? I max at around 12k per hr. The argument is that as the economy changes people should change what they do. I built a melon farm...then came the update less than a week later, so I built a pumpkin farm, then the price gets lowered. Its like you need to have a farm for each thing now just in case server prices change again.
First, the reason item prices would inflate would be do to it being a user-user economy. If people can make much more than normal then people will have more money to spend on other things such as donation features which could get outrageously high and only be for the richest. It also can effect prices such as more people farming melons which will cause less people to mine and diamond prices would greatly inflate. Other things like exp will almost be worthless because noone will want to be trying to get that eff 5 axe anymore for melons and the demand for silk picks will also be destroyed. Changing one aspect in this economy so greatly could in terms, change the entire economy for better or worse.
