Item/Rank/Feature: Emerald Data Value: No Value, cannot /sell Current Price: Not worth anything Suggested Price: Around $30? Brief Description: Mining and voting Open Discussion: I was randomly thinking today, and I realised that it may be a good idea to add a price to emeralds so that they can be sold to the server. Why? Because if you think about it, emeralds never "Disappear" from the server, unless someone burns them ETC. With the montly mining world change, this is literally "Spawning" in emeralds with nowhere to go. It is important to add a price to emeralds because if there are too much of something, then the price goes down. I think its important to put a price on emeralds to keep emeralds from being worth $20 per in the long run. I mean all the other gems have a /sell hand price, why not add it to emeralds? Although they are indeed rare, emeralds may become extremely popular. Not to mention all the emeralds that could be traded by villagers, some could be unfair and you could get many emeralds from maybe some paper. Visa versa, but people don't exactly trade an emerald for lets just say 5 raw chickens, just because simply its not really worth it. Comment what you think below.
Emeralds are now taken out of the economy in large numbers by those people wanting the Treasure Collector Medals. I actually quite like the idea that they don't have a server price. It is one of the few genuine markets that is driven by supply/demand without any influence from /sell prices.
True, dewsy...I think I like the relation of supply and demand forming a price. I remember them going up to 50$ from original 30$ a while ago. Thanks for the input - now I think a tiny bit different about it.
I don't know that many people who actually want to get the emerald forum medal, but you do have a point. I still think adding price to emeralds would be a nice thing to do.
Emeralds are great because they are truly a player market, more so than pretty anything else. The thing that seperates this from say.. diamonds is that diamonds will always be worth $25 (unless andrew changes price) so the player market is $25+. Emeralds however can be $1-1k depending on how players buy and sell, which i why I -1 because I don't want to see them have a standard price.
There doesn't need to be that many people who want the medal really. If you think that it is a double chest of blocks. That is 54 stacks of 64 blocks. Bearing in mind each block is 9 emeralds, each medal requires 31,104 emeralds. That is A LOT taken out per medal.
I believe what OJ is saying is true. What we have with emeralds is basically the same as Nether Stars. You can, however, /sell hand Nether Stars, but that isn't a very bright idea. Emeralds are in extremely high demand, giving it a worth isn't really going to help anything. Let the players have power over the market as much as they can; it allows for a much more enjoyable and challenging market. -1
As dewsy said, emeralds are taken out by people going for the "Emerald Collector Medal". I personally feel this shouldn't be added. I like the fact that the emerald market is driven by supply and demand. It is one of the very few markets like this. Diamonds were like this back in the day, but then with all the enchantments and such, they put the ability to have a price change back in. Overall, I don't feel this should happen because of the supply and demand. Also, not all that many emeralds are spawned in comparison to diamonds. So, there's no need to worry about "overpopulation of emeralds" .
Diamond = /sell hand Nether Star = /sell hand emerald = no One of theses things is not like the other lol but they all have metals? +1
