If you said selling dirt for $100 each and then sold some fine, if you sold a diamond for $10k then well done. If you sell a dirt block saying it is a diamond or a dirt block renamed as diamond at any price then you are scamming. (Providing that you said "Selling a diamond" etc, a false claim) So long as the item you are selling is what it is then it is alright. This is an economy server, you may sell anything at any price to anyone. However con artists and thieves will get banned.
That or he means more of, can I say, buy up everything of a particular resource in an attempt to make a demand by shrinking the supply then selling off all the excess for profits.
hmn well if someone doesn't do their home work and thinks that I diamond is worth $500 each or something, I am going to shovel diamonds into them so long as they have money. They want diamonds, I have diamonds. Its just the value we place on them. I mean they are happy before, during and in the short term after the trade... until they try to resell or something and get laughed down. Its all above board its just the value you affix to the item and if they will meet it at that point in time.
Does this include telling someone something really rare is worth like 1k to get it and sell it for like 100 times more? this happens to me a lot....
I don't think price manipulation will work on ECC easily. There is just too much out there and the amount of money needed to corner the rare item market is very substantial. Besides, unlike Buxville and their Egg Auctions, almost everything is server buyable. Those things that are not.... are constantly being mined or created so you can't possibly corner the market unless you were to offer pricing that was multiples above what anyone else would offer.. You can only corner a market if you have access to every source of a thing. Which in ECC, you cannot.
I have heard of many cases of price manipulation. It takes quite a bit of disposable income in the first place to pull off because you need to buy your compeitors out. Secondly, you need to have a very good sales position ie: A top floor spawn shop. You could easily dominate a single section of the economy as long as you had the time and resources to do that. You also would need to do it in such a way that no one else would notice. It is almost like playing the stock market except you are the one forcing the prices up. Example: The exp prices fluctuate frequently. If you were able to over night buy out almost every supply of exp on the server and the yank the prices up about $400-600 more, you would make an extreme profit. I know for a fact that there are a few users who try and succeed to control the worth of certain things. In those known cases I simply go around them and retrieve the stuff myself or find it for sale in towns because town prices are almost always less than spawnshop prices.
how to crash diamond market: Purchase them all. All of them. I had 7 double chests of diamond blocks. then I sold them for $70 each. (this was back when they were worth $100-$125) many lolz were had. also perfectly legal
No one has ever really impacted prices on ecc. Its practically impossible. I know of users with 10s of thousands of diamonds and look at how much the price dropped in a year. There is just way to much available on the server these days. The fact that we have made things so easy for new players for the growth of the server is the reason on top of the recent updates to make the game a bit easier as well. Too much money, xp, and endless ores have made basically everything worthless. There is nothing rare that remains other then player made unobtainables. Think about it... All the old farming experts have left, many of the great builders have as well, or no longer build, even the players who invented the coolest ways to make fourtunes no longer play as often (*cough* jets). Most now just sit in chat and play lotto for hours untill they win a huge amound of money. If you can't tell, I really miss the good ol days when ECC was a true "hardcore economy".
I checked yesterday and this thread had just 1 reply. I recheck and now we are nearly at 2 pagess. Well done forum people! xD
ajp you are so gloomy, they just moved on. The economy has not died it has just changed. There are now more people for the economy to cover, exp prices fluctuate as do nether star prices. Lots of old players buy and then lock away massive amounts of resources. Some people have 10's of thousands of diamonds ie rockdassie, tommy_t, highdaftgril me.... (I wish) But these people sit on them, collecting dust in protected areas. There is constantly a stream of people needing goods for projects or new tools etc... The risk is if you ever decided to attack the market that you would have a lot of competition if anyone of these hoarders ever saw that their was a significant profit to make buy selling their diamonds and then re-buying them later. The fact is that players have forced prices down by over competing and that it was the older people on the server who have brought prices to what they are today by competing... like an economy would.
