Re: O HELL NO Absolutely. Not. It would dramatically effect the way most of the towns are run on the server, and not for the better. When someone runs out of money they would lose their town, causing a dramatic loss of the personal property for people who have paid for plots in those towns. In addition, it punishes people for having personal problems in life and not being capable of keeping their balance up. It'd also cause a huge mess in chat and around the server, like what happened when builders were forced into only Local chat. You would never hear the end of it from anyone, from mayors to presidents, and it'd be a severe scare-off from people who have worked for a great amount of time to earn the 75,000 ECD just to have to pay a regular tax on their land. It stifles creativeness, and it also will force more people underground for mining or going into farming, which would advance the loss of minerals in the land at a much quicker rate. Those who are at a comfortable balance and who spend their money on their town would be forced to stop work and go gain even more money just to hold in the case that tax-time rolls around. Going with the stifling of creativeness, it would also dramatically reduce those people's aspirations for beautiful things on this server. There are many great places on this map, and the fact that people would have to pay taxes on their land which is already expensive enough would keep quite a few nameable creations from our server. We want to have nice things to show off but if people are more occupied with having enough money to keep themselves from a negative balance they won't have the chance to build those great things which would separate our server from every other one on Minestatus or anywhere else. People like Dylnordstrom would lose their towns after committing so much towards the server's aesthetics, because of the fact that he is occupied with College but has pledged to return to the server when he has time. Mayors and Presidents with large amounts of land and towns would find themselves taxed into oblivion and it would support people not even buying towns and becoming mayors because they'll have to pay even more for something they've already payed for and they've already earned. Presidents who are trying to keep their town closed for a good amount of time until they are concluded and opened up for the public would be forced to go away from their towns and have to spend more time earning money to keep their balances up to keep from a negative balance, which would eventually result in either a ban or the removal of towns in the case that they cannot rise out of the negative balances, which has been said to be the result of a long-standing negative balance before. And what would happen if someone was to get to the point where they simply could not get out of the negatives? In the case that the taxes eclipse their income no matter how hard they grind minerals or farm, and no matter how often they try to sell plots. Would the towns they own be returned to the wild? Would they be banned? Both options would cause far too much consternation and it would case arguments in both chat and on the forums about the procession of things. People who simply bought a plot in a town would lose their valuable possessions if the town were returned to **wild status, and if the user were punished for such a negative balance, it wouldn't allow them more time to rise back up from the negatives. It'd also leave empty land under the case that there is no co-mayor, because of the sole fact that there is no longer a member to add/remove members from the town, and as seen in towns when mayors go inactive for more than a week, grief begins to become the common occurrence. That would lead to super-mods being over-whelmed with grief reports in a town which no longer has a mayor because that person was removed from the server for not paying his taxes. There are too many cons to go along with too few pros. The idea of trying to tax people based upon their balance makes no sense because then everyone is going to just gonna hide all their money in trade-signs, so then it'd do absolutely nothing.
I like how Andrew said hmm just to jerk peoples chains and people still lost their mind. Gotta pluck the strings once and awhile to see which ones are to tightly wound.
WOW dident expect that big of a reaction lol any way this is an economy server this would also solve the town problem because if you are inactive for two long your town can be sold or destroyed
We'd have a hell of alot more on this server if we were a pure economy server. We're a mix of survival, economy, and creative. Its a very delicate balance which something like this could upset. People have suggested "Selling/Destroying inactive towns" before, but it will not happen. Its too much work and is too subjective. We have more than enough land on the server for all of the towns and many more, theres no reason to destroy/sell peoples towns. Did you even read what i said?
...if there were to be taxes on towns, I'd lose my town unfairly simply because I can't get on. I would not be a happy person. Same with a lot of other people - Dylnordstom is a very good example, as Ike used. Even Mission.. I don't see him on much, but he has a really nice town(s). ._.
