I like that SG has been getting a lot more attention as of late and being changed for the better, improving the health of SG and the server as a whole. However there was one change that was made that I believe was for all the wrong reasons. In particular, this one: These are all very false claims. "It's literally useless." I don't understand how this conclusion was made. Some brewing ingredients are less powerful than others, namely glistering melons and ghast tears (relatively speaking, I think both are still very good in the right hands). But how can you actually say that blaze powder and sugar, which can be used to make 3-minute strength and speed pots respectively, are "literally useless"? It's essentially the core of the buffer kit! It potentially allows any experienced/skilled players without kits to compete with the kit users, which in my opinion is always a welcome addition (Not to mention, adding gunpowder makes them splash, which can make a team of no kitters become suddenly a very scary force to deal with). I would suggest bringing back at the very least these two ingredients because they are in fact one of the strongest items in SG combined with awkward pots (which, if you still want to remove brewing ingredients, you need to remove these too because right now, they are truly considered "literally useless"). "You don't have reasonable time to brew anything in almost every game." This is also quite false. The limiting factor is actually not time, but rather finding awkward pots, which is not a rare occurrence by any means. When players learn the map, they learn where the brewing stands are located and can easily get to them to brew in time even before grace period ends, and certainly before deathmatch if they find the right ingredients. I can tell you that brewing stands were hotly contested spots on the map that encouraged less camping and more fighting around that area, as it was like a buffer-generating station that anybody could access. It gave solo players a better chance to compete against teams and outplay, and provided players with more strategic choices. Walk all the way to the brewing stand and risk losing out on items, perhaps even your own life? Play it safe and wait it out? Assassinate and steal their brewing pots while they are occupied? I liked thinking out my choices that the brewing aspect introduced to the game. "All it does is clutter up chests with needless junk." As mentioned above, ingredients aren't "needless junk". But if we really think these clutter up chests too much despite their potential in the right hands, I would suggest removing glistering melons/ghast tears or reducing their spawn rate. This statement is pretty much in the same realm as the first so I won't discuss it much more. In summary, what I'm suggesting is one of the following in preferential order - Revert blaze powder/sugar removal change. If you're concerned about clutter, reduce the spawn rate of glistering melons and ghast tears, or remove them. Blaze powder was common but very powerful (and essential for brewing in 1.9), and sugar was definitely already rare enough. - Revert this change exactly the way it was before - If none of the above should be implemented, finish the job by removing awkward potions from the game. Those are truly "useless" without anything to make them into at the moment.
When I last played SG I kept getting chests filled with potion shit, but I didn't get any armour and barely any weapons. The reason potion shit is junk is because it's shit compared to actual weapons and armour. If you want potions, just have actual potions in chest. Increasing the amount of items in chests reduces the odds of getting each item, so replacing potion junk with actual potions increases the odds of armor and weapons appearing.
It isn't junk compared to actual weapons and armor. It isn't even a good comparison. Weapons are considered a necessity in SG, and potion ingredients should be considered as the strongest complement to weapons. A better comparison is to compare potion ingredients to everything else that is not weapons/armor. There are many other items that spawn besides weapons/armor, and among them, ingredients would be considered among having the most potential. Also, if anything, since it is quite easier to get weapons with the addition of axes/bows and armor has always been in every other chest, this shouldn't be such an issue anymore. I would also highly disagree with having buffer potions premade in a chest, but would welcome the addition of the pots found in grenadier in chests, to utilize the new dragons breath and make tipped arrows. Keeping str/swe pots in ingredient form encourages more action at the brewing stands, which is better than just having them premade and too easy to access. Regarding the concern of odds of getting each item, there is no difference except with needing awkward pots, which are already spawning right now.
https://www.ecocitycraft.com/forum/threads/sg-item-changes.152475/#post-851905 Tl;dr I disagree. Potions made SG more of a joke than minigames coming to the hub.
Potions will be in SG no matter if brewing is re-added or not. Brewing helped bridge the gap between kit and non-kit users.
Potions should be brought back, I don't understand why they where removed. They made the gaming experience more of a strategic and skillful way of how to act upon the things people knew and understood about Pvp.
