My fellow member of ECC, a problem has arisen. To start off I would like it to be known I am not trying to troll this player nor ruin his business or tamper with the economy in any such way. And although in our economy players agree to a deal, many don't know how to use the /worth command and therefore don't always know what the true value of the item they're buying is. Anyways, today on November 10, 2012 at around 5:40 EST I noticed a player trying to sell a stack of brewing stands for $500 in the trade chat. I sent him a pm asking him to lower the cost since many new players don't know what a stack of brewing stands is actually worth. I didn't tell him to lower it, I kindly asked ,"Can you lower the price a little bit? Newer players don't know what the stands are worth." I did not ask him to lower it to server price. I was fine with the price he asked as long as it wasn't something outrageous like he was asking. I didn't try to ruin his business. Anyways, the discussion turned into my telling him something along the lines of "You are taking advantage of players. Do you this or not?" to which he replied "Yes." I have a screenshot of my question and his reply at http://philpeg5.imgur.com/all/ But anyways, if you agree with me that he should lower the prices, leave a reply to my thread OR vote on the poll on this thread. Now I'm not asking that we force him to lower his prices. I just hope that if enough of us ask then he will. If you do ask please do not harass him or start an argument. The player's IGN is Zeddarkmaster. Please leave a comment or reply if you have a question. Please don't leave any negative comments or replies. *NOTE* I was told by a mod that I could post a thread like this, so don't say that I'm ignoring the rules.
Sure he can sell stuff at crazy prices if he wants. It is his items he may sell them at whatever price he wants. It is the buyers job to double check they are not getting ripped off. On the other hand now that you have made public Zeddarks crazy prices he might want to lower them sence no one likes people who rip folks off.
You said someone was taking advantage of another user; I said you could post a complaint about it. Users have the opportunity to buy/sell as they please. I do not feel that anyone was being taken advantage of in this situation because users need to be aware what items are worth and what they usually sell for. New users have a well developed wiki and tutorial island to find out about the /worth command. This is not "scamming" in any sort as he is specifying the item he is selling and the exact price he wants it for.
I asked if I could post a thread, not a complaint. And I never said that he was scamming. What he is doing is completely allowed but I believe that it is wrong so I wanted to inform people of it to see what they think. And tell me, what did you do first? Was it looking at the ECC wiki? Because many players don't do that the first couple of days they join, even if they should.
This is an economy server. If you don't like his prices, make some brewing stands and undercut his price. Guaranteed to work every time. Scenario: I am unhappy with the price of the Chevrolet Silverado. I write General Motors a letter and say "Hey, I don't want to pay $35K for a new truck. You should really lower your price because I know how much it costs to make them." They more than likely would respond by telling me its too bad and if I was that unhappy I should buy another brand. He has the right to sell what he wants, at whatever price he wants. Welcome to the concept of free market. It's everywhere....
Well I apologize then for caring about the newest players that have joined less than an hour before they see his ad and think "Brewing stands are probably worth a lot, so that seems like a good deal." Doesn't matter anymore because I guess people for whatever reason just don't care about new players like I do. I am in no way trying to be disrespectful to you or anyone. But someone has to stand up for the builders and new players, and if no one else is going to do it I will.
And there my friend you found a problem with a free economy. Let us look at a real life example. I am not a car guy, and I never will be. Cars do not intrest me beyond the fact I use them to get around. That being the case I have no clue what the values of cars are. So when the day comes that I need to buy my first car; I had better ask someone I trust who does know the values of cars if I am being ripped off by the dealership I am buying my car from. Failing that I should at least do some reaserch on the values of cars to find out myself if I am being ripped off. If I don't take action myself and get ripped off as a result, it is my own fault. There is no one telling the car dealership what they should charge to be fair, and because of that it is my job to find out if thet are. The same thing works here. There is no one telling people what to charge for there items, because of this people should make sure there not being overcharged when they buy something. People should be smart enough to know that people will try to take advantage of ther noobness and need to safe gaurd themselves against it. It is the builders job to find the value of brewing stands before they buy them.
Ok. I give up then. Let's just let all the builders waste their money without helping them out. Can a mod lock this please?
