So, who else has heard of Oculus Rift? It's a fairly new thing released. It's a "box" of sorts that you put over your eyes, like, well, just google it, you'll see a photo. It uses Virtual Reality to immerse you in the game. You can ride a roller coaster, fly a heli-copter, or go swimming, all with a sense of realism. There are bunch of Youtube videos about people using it, sometimes it's so real they get really scared. One person was riding the rollercoaster, and they got too scared so they took it off It also has Minecraft support, so you can literally walk around MC like it's real. This guy (http://tinyurl.com/pjamre3) shows a nice video of it. But before you click on it, let me assure you, it's very hard to film it. This Rift is like a pair of binoculars, there are two lenses, so before you blow it off as stupid with two screens, do some more looking. The official site is here by the way (http://tinyurl.com/9ymw7lp). They say not to buy it yet, since only the developer kit is out. Basically, the beta version for game developers to use to put Oculus in their game. But some of the hardcore gamers, and the rich people (me ) have ordered it just to try it out. But let me tell you, don't order it lightly, there are a lot of issues with it so far, such as low resolution, that you'll want to check out before you buy it. The consumer version release date is roughly mid to late 2014 and the price range is roughly going to be around $250, the developer kit is $300 currently. It's not here yet, so I can't tell you if it's worth it to buy a developer kit. I was wonder who else had heard of it, seen it, ect. If you want to learn all about it, you'll have to do a full view of searching and reading stuff, but I promise it's very interesting. I recently ordered a developer kit, but it won't even get shipped til October. I'm looking forward to trying a lot of the demo's there are out there, heli-copter, roller coaster, diving, canoeing, hot air ballooning You can find a full list of games here (http://tinyurl.com/lyb4joo) and their download links. It's really cool. So who else has heard of it? Anyone else got it yet? Anyone looking forward to it?
Im not putting on a pair of goggles to play mc. Ive heard of it but it might end up like the visual boy.
Visual boy.....hmmm. I looked at it and I'm not sure how it relates to the Oculus. It's just a gameboy emulator for the computer? Also, MC isn't Oculus Native. Basically, MC wasn't created with the Oculus in mind, rather obviously. Basically this means that while Oculus can still be used for MC, it won't look as good as games that were created with the Oculus in mind from the start. Also, if you look around at some videos, you cannot use it to play survival, MC wasn't created with it in mind, so survival can't work. Creative mode, and walking around looking at buildings (like in the video), can be done, and it works fairly well from what I've heard. Also, people say it feels really really light, like wearing ski goggles, the thing is only like 0.8 pounds.
There's a gaming website called Kotaku that I read regularly. They've mentioned the Oculus Rift many times, they seem to like it a lot! http://kotaku.com/tag/oculus-rift Also, I think dgam was talking about the old Virtual Boy, not "visual boy"
Lol virtual boy? XD good one. Made almost 20 years ago. I'd think that the Oculus would be a tiny tiny tiny bit more advanced. I looked a bit at the virtual boy, I can assure you it will be nothing like it. That uses old technology, pfft, you can't compare the two. And anyway Nico, everyone seems excited about it, you've got to look into it
In fact, I did a bit more reading into the virtual boy, here's some quotes: This one is a lol. 1 x 224 resolution and only one color XD Forgive me if I think the oculus will be better Because also, the oculus has head tracking. Aka, move your head to the right, your screen view moves to the right.
