Then you're the person we're looking for! Apply to become an official "News of the Main World" journalist today! We do require a writing sample be provided. This sample should be a draft article that the paper could run. If you're not good at writing, that is ok, do the best you can. Please read through the FAQ, and pay attention to our formatting. News of the Main World's goal is to find and develop topics that can be relevant and interesting to the ECC community. It may be as simple as noting that a new server feature is available, or that a role-play event or competition is taking place. As a correspondent, your job is to find cool stories and share them with the community. How do you we write as a team? As a correspondent, you will be provided with a document writing tool where you should assemble your articles. Most of what happens is free flow at this time. Is there a standard of quality? Though we want to be able to provide a variety of interesting articles, we also need to make sure we don’t flame, and we don’t misrepresent important facts. The Editors are not going to fact check you, but if you misrepresent to a degree, people can complain, and you may be issued a pink slip. If you have information from a source link or person, it's never a bad idea to link. It is also important to determine when things are newsworthy, or whether it is better to keep things ‘off the record’. Not everything should be printed between you and your sources. Do you have tips on writing an article? When forming your article, keep these questions in mind: Who, What, Where, When, Why, How. Readers will be looking for answers to these questions, and this information is the basis of every article. So, gather information. You may find it useful to plan your articles by making an outline with the facts and details. You will likely find that if you are not sure how to form your article, that by answering these questions, the article will begin to shape itself, and you may find you are presented with more questions or themes that can be investigated. The same applies for writing RP focused articles. Though you can write an article to any length, keep in mind the number of facts and details you have to work with in your writing -- don’t drag something out too long without enough details, or the reader may get bored. Use your details and words carefully, concisely, and more often than not, be direct. Finally, revision, revision, revision. Is there a format? Yes. I would recommend reading through our prior editions. The editor will be responsible in the end for making sure an edition meets the standards and format needs, but you should try to write articles with proper formatting. Here are some things to keep in mind: + When writing paragraphs, do not indent. Separate paragraphs with an additional line. + Images need some sort of clean, white boarder around them. If you do not know how to do this, the editor will take care of it for posting in the official edition. Also, if screenshots have the chatbox, please read through the chat box for appropriate language. If there is inappropriate language, try to find another screenshot, or edit out the inappropriate chat from the image. What if I am a bad writer, or have no experience? Everyone can write. If you are interested in writing better, grammatically and logically, you do need self motivation. The newspaper staff is willing to help you, but you have to be motivated to participate and to find and develop new stories.

IGN: Primzey Why you want to be a Journalist: When it comes to writing, I love to sit down and put my mind on a roller coaster as I think of what could be a short story or even a Newspaper article that is in my own name. I have no troubles writing enthusiastically and it get's my mind off of things as I give my full potential into a masterpiece. Why you think you would be a good Journalist: I take a journalism class at my school and I am right below the Chief Editor which is my close friend that is a Fellow Anchor to me. ( I study Media Communication ) Even though it is sports, I am credited beyond my wildest dreams and when it comes down to the question : Why ? IGN: Dude6688 Why you want to be a Journalist: I wasnt hoping to i would like to be a researcher for example most people dont like to go through the market to find the best deals... Me I do that anyway. I would simply report new spawn shops top 3 sales "diamond deal of the day" etc. Why you think you would be a good Journalist: As you can see from above i am not a great writer, but i dont need to be if u let me work as a researcher you wont regret it. IGN: Iticip Why you want to be a Journalist: Writing articles is something I have been doing for a very long time. Almost three years now, I have spend in two different school news papers, one leading, and one as an editor and writer. In my middle school, I lead the overall school newspaper, The Town Tribune, and enjoyed my time there. Now, I am given the opportunity on ECC to do this as well, and I hope to take advantage of it. Why you think you would be a good Journalist: My experience in this field has grown over in my school and other areas can translate well into the News of The Main World. I am excited to possibly be receiving the privilege to wright for this ECC newspaper, and can bring some important information to the table. I noticed that many of our articles may involve the wars, and our ECC nations. I am currently in America, one of the biggest nations, and can provide an insiders perspective on things, weather or not bias is asked for. Include a writing sample if possible: Please note, this is my latest article. I wrote it in the ecology section of our newspaper, and it does contain bias. It is completely an opinion, and I know many people will disagree with my view on Global Warming. Please take this into account when reading. Also, I chose to wright it in a speech format, hence the questions asked of the reader. Spoiler If we keep using our cars and energy the same way we have been for the last 30 years, our planet will soon be under water. How many of you think that this statement is true? What if I told you it was a complete lie from the media. That is what the media wants you to believe about global warming. I’m sure you have seen some sort of commercial with a giant iceberg exploding and the commentary saying that all the polar bears are dying, and you should donate to help science research a solution to prevent global warming. Well, this is all a hoax. They actually go to uninhabited areas of canada filled with large amounts of snow and ice, and blow them up with dynamite. How many of you think that when an ice cube in water melts, the water level rises? Well, think about the last time you drank water at a restaurant, and think about the ice. Did you see the ice on top of the water, or under it? Many people believe that if an ice cube is in water and it melts, then the water level will rise because the ice cube it floating. Although part of it does, this is because the icecube has 90% water, and 10% air, causing 10% of the icecube to be above water. Now ask yourself, what would happen if the north pole melts? Just think of the ice cube experiment again, and you will realize that nothing will ever happen to the rest of our planet. Wait, but the south pole has land under it right? And what about Canada and Russia? Yes, you are right, they do have land under the ice. Now think about what man-made fuels release, CO2. With all of the planes, cars, and boats we have, it seems like we would release a lot of CO2 right? WRONG, man made CO2 only accounts for 2% of the CO2 in the air. However, I am just proving the media wrong with that fact, because Carbon Dioxide and man made fuel exhaustion has nothing to do with Global Warming. If you think about it, CO2 is only really dangerous to us in enclosed areas. This is because CO2 is basically plant food, and it will generate the necessary amount of plants that are required to balance it out with the amount of oxygen that us humans need, proving that it has nothing to do with global warming. Now let me ask you a rhetorical question. 5 years ago, did you ever hear the phrase, climate change? Or was it mostly global warming. Now ask yourself the question flipped, how often do you hear the phrase global warming, compared to climate change. People who believe in global warming, like Al Gore, have been silenced and had to change from global warming because they could no longer prove it was true. Al Gore once said “The plant has not been this hot in 1,000 years”, implying that the world was this hot 1,000 years ago. Did they have any cars, planes, or coal powered boats then? No, they didn’t even have electricity. If it was this hot over 1,000 years ago, then why didn’t they have mass flooding then? Why didn’t they have another Ice Age either? They didn’t even have a way of creating man-made fuels, unless you count a simple fire….. which doesn’t count. Now when deciding what to believe, think about the long term evidence. Think about the graphs you are looking at, are they from the past 100-200 years, or the last 4,000 years. I leave you with a lot of information over a long period of time, that disproves out current average temperature, it is not nearly what others have been.

IGN: Skylexia Why you want to be a Journalist: Documentation and archiving are very important parts of many communities in the real world, and it is no different here on EcoCityCraft. Due to the economy and large community nature of this server, having a news source that covers the events and chronicles the information that the occasional player or the one who maybe has been away for awhile could be very key in getting those players to feel more involved in the community, expanding the playerbase by keeping everyone on the same page and up to date. I really want to be a Journalist to help with this cause, to continue with bringing information and documentation of events and features to the public, and to help ensure that the information being conveyed is accurate and of the highest quality possible. Why you think you would be a good Journalist: It's been a few years, but I used to be a journalist in my high school. I ran the school newspaper for a semester (the way our school did it, it switched every semester and sometimes mid-semester), and assisted with the production of the yearbook for 3 years, the second year of which I was the co-editor. I graduated high school with a Technical Certificate in Communications for my continuous work on the yearbook and journalism courses, and other desktop publishing and communication technology courses. Since graduating from high school, my formal writing got a bit stronger with the continuation of my business communication courses and documentation and wiki creation on various sites, and major example being ECC's wiki, which I administrated for a good while. I'll admit my writing has drifted a piece away from journalist-style, however I do remember the processes very strongly and think with a little practice, falling back into the systematic bias-less writing that journalism is will just be a step back in time, at which point I can focus on reforming and hardening my skill in that particular style. Include a writing sample if possible: See the ECC rules; I wrote most of the current version minus the TeamSpeak and Forum rules. For my journalism writing, I can dig out my old high school projects and send them to you privately at request (I think, they may be in a file type I don't currently have a program to open, but I will try.) They are a little outdated but it'll indicate about where my writing in that style is at for the moment.
IGN: will_the_warrior Why do you want to be a Journalist: I think it would be fun to report events taking place around the server and use my skills to put together news articles about events or other important things going on. I understand this is a face paced job and that you must always be looking for new stories and things to report, and that's what I enjoy. IGN: TaylorBros22 Why you want to be a Journalist: I love to write andd I was part of Laxcd11's Magazine crew, until it had to end, I am an active part of a writers group in school and I have written quite a few short stories. Why you think you would be a good Journalist: I think I would be a good Journalist because I can meet deadlines and I can write lengthy stories Writing sample: I was part of @Laxcd11 magazine but it had to be stopped I wrote two articles for that and I would like to be an active part of another newspaper: Are the ECC Punishments in place too Strict?I, TaylorBros22, go head to head with <player name> to debateif our current ECC rules are too strict or too nice.I was asked to debate this topic by Laxcd11 as part of this brand new ECC magazine, I will hold <weekly/monthly> debates with players of all ranks in the community about topical issues that you, the public, want to hear about. Currently I think that the Punishments we have in place to make ECC a fair, happy, enjoyable place is very good although <player name> holds an opposite view. First we will hear from me and then we will hear from <player name>. I have been thinking a lot about this topic and what to say/not say. I think so far that all the rules in ECC are fair. The warnings many users get are very good and almost too nice! The ways in which Complaints are dealt with are very good (I will go into more detail about this later) and the current Rules or the yes you can do this or no you can’t do that are acceptable and fair.Firstly I would like to discuss the warnings the staff give out via the forums and in game. On countless occasions I have seen people chat in the wrong chat and then continuing to do so or people using explicit language in chat, and the way the staff deal with it is very professional. The user may get a hint that what he/she is doing is wrong such as “Post this in this chat /ch ….” or “Try posting that in this chat more people will acknowledge it” then if the user doesn’t do this, continues to do this he/she will get a sterner warning such as “That is the second time, that is the wrong chat post that message here” or “Please do not put that in (Global, Trade, Auction) chat” then things get more serious. A user can face a kick or a ban for ignoring staff member’s instructions. I believe that this is a very fair way of doing it and I think sometimes the staff are too nice! Secondly I would like to talk about the way the complaints are dealt with via the forums. I think that they are dealt with very quickly and efficiently. For example I recently posted a complaint about a certain user, I will not give the username for obvious reasons, and within 20 minutes the issue was dealt with. On the other hand one thing I would like to change is anybody that is not involved with the complaint should not be able to comment on it and if they do, they should be warned about it through a forum warning. The moderators are very professional in the language they use and the way they deliver their messages. They are nice but firm. Finally I would like to discuss the way they, the moderators, handle and deal with Ban Appeals. Now, as andrewkm said, “Ban appeals are the staffs absolute lowest priority and I will never care nor pressure the staff to handle them, ever. If you want to avoid this long annoying process don’t get banned!” This statement I agree with. Despite andrewkm saying this I believe that ban appeals are handled very quickly. The moderators, as they should, know what they are doing and they give an almost immediate response. They are also very fair with their punishments as well. Sometimes an in game warning will be issued and sometimes a temp ban will be issued. Now I look through the ban appeals quite a lot to check if any of my town are in trouble with the server, and I hardly ever see permanent bans issued. Also if a players ban is very old, moderators may not let that player back on due to security reasons which I think is acceptable. What if they hacked? What if they stole lots of in game money? These are questions that moderators have to think about during the ban appeals process, is it safe to let the user back on the server.
