For the last few updates it has been very hard to update my minecraft to a current version. I will press yes when it says would you like to update now, and it will start downloading until it gets to 13%. It then freezes and I have to restart minecraft and do the same thing again. Eventually it will download completely but I have to do this many times. Is there any way I could make it actually download correctly? Any suggestions anyone have?

    Thanks,
    Zan

The best idea I can think of is to open up the Minecraft Setting directory. In windows the easiest way to get to this is via holding the Windows Key and pressing R ([IMG] + R)

When that is opened, because of the changes you are making you likely want to make a backup, programs like WinRAR allow you to select all the files in the window and allows you to Right Click the files and put them into a new zip. You dont need to backup Saves, TexturePacks and Screenshots - you wont delete these. Because you are deleting files you likely want to use pencil/paper to note down all the severs you want to keep in the new installation.

Now that you have backed up (and I suggest you do!) Delete the same files, those that you want to delete are:
    • Bin
      Config
      Mods
      Resources
      Stats

And any single files in the direcotry, for example, options.txt, modloader.txt etc.

Severs.dat is the file in which allows you to connect to severs, I do suggest deleting this too, but there is really no need to.

Once that is done, you will have a VERY clean minecraft download. You wont need to need to "update" as there is nothing to update.

If this works, open the Minecraft Settings location (see above) and open minecraft.rar, delete the meta-inf folder and backup the minecraft.rar file (My backup/restore method) in a way that allows easy "roleback" if something does go wrong.

If this doesn't help let us know with as much details as possible :)
