theres always the test server, andrew could probably just let players go play willie nilly on it whenever the server is down for a long period of time.
Hmm... would ECC be able to support a second server while resetting/regenerating the worlds? Or would it slow down/lag too much? You can always find your own "backup server" to play on while ECC is down. Or, you know, use it as an excuse to get out and do something?
...Which part made no sense? The bit about going outside? If ECC can support a second server during resets then why not just remove access to the world being reset and leave the rest of the server open? That would probably be too difficult though. The test server is fun though. Especially when I get excessive money added to my balance for no reason.
It actually does make sense. I'm no expert but I believe Andrew would have to pay to add another IP to be hosted by his provider. And I agree with prime, it's only 15 minutes on resets. Go get something to eat or something like that. It's ~4 hours for world regeneration. Just one day you cant play for 4 hours every 1-2 months or so. It's not such a big deal. I like to go do something else. Hang out with the family, play the guitar, ps3, hang out with friends, etc. I don't think the cost/work to host another server is worth it.
We can go on the test server.. We can be different ranks and have millions of dollars and stuff for like all of 5-10 minutes!
