What is this?I am suggesting that beginners join a default "Beginners" channel before moving to Local, Trade, or Global chat. [anchor]Why[/anchor] Why is this a problem? People at spawn are the people on this server that are the most vulnerable to these attacks. Most people at spawn have recently joined the server. These people are the most likely to quit and join another server due to IP spams from other players. [anchor]How[/anchor] How is this currently being resolved? Moderators currently have to "camp" at spawn to ban these players as soon as possible, but the spammers would have well over 5 messages before the time it takes to ban them. We have also restricted new people to talk in local chat by default, which restricts the spamming to the local spawn, but as mentioned in the above question, these players can still lure away future players. [anchor]Is[/anchor] Is there a more efficient way of solving this problem? Yes. I am suggesting that new players start talking in a "Beginners" channel instead of the default Local Channel. As soon as they join, new players should have automatic notifications that notify them of the different chat channels that they can join to talk. Spammers usually ignore this information; they simply macro-spam the default channel as soon as they join the server. [anchor]work[/anchor] How does this work? When new players join, they will receive a notification of the chat channels they should join to do their desired activities. When IP spammers join, they start spamming the default channel they are in, which is the "Beginners Channel". Only Moderators and new players can see this chat, so Moderators can inform new players on chat channels or ban IP spammers as needed. [anchor]help[/anchor] How does this help? New players are informed about where to ask questions, reducing the number of people in spawn who are clueless of what to do. They also cannot hear IP spammers once they leave the Beginners channel and join Local or Global. IP spammers influence nobody. Moderators see IP spammers no matter where they are since it is in the Beginners channel, which results in a quicker ban. Thank you for reading. +1 Chat color should be &4 or &c, make it nice and red so we can see it :3 Also make the beginners channel "leavable" by everyone.
I think everyone can havea choice to see it in case the mods are to busy and someone needs help. Then Someone can help the player before he/she rage quits
was that the /ch helpme or somthing long those lines? Me and a friend would invite builders on there, and awnser there questions, how did it go horribly
then there just macro spamming the beginners chat? Having the same effect as spamming local, it would turn new users away from our server?
You explained to me in-game that this was the /ch helpme channel and it turned out horribly because people spammed it. This could easily be solved by putting a password on the channel, so once they leave it, they cannot rejoin. Moderators will know the password, so they can moderate the channel as well.
You are referring to the /helpme channel. Out of all the chat changes that day, that was the only good one and was added back later on. lol.
When the official /ch helpme happen, builders could not join /ch auc. That's the reason why everything went back, because builders were upset about not being able to auction, and then started using /ch helpme as an auction, therefor andrew decided to just go back to normal. I think a new thing like this or /ch helpme again, and letting everyone join all the channels, besides staff channels, would be a good idea. I wouldn't like it to be &4 or &c though, since those colors should be kept for really important stuff, like alerts and what not, maybe something around &5 maybe, but anyways I think this would be a good idea. +1
Another way to avoid this would be to actually spam the "Beginners" channel with "Leave /ch beginners" and "Join /ch l" so that new people will know how to leave/join channels. Moderators could also kick users who talk/auction in this channel, and once they are kicked they cannot rejoin because the channel is protected with a password.
