Just an idea for controlled mob spawning. I think there mihgt be a compremise between server lag and those that want to have mobs. My idea is this: Mobs do not spawn in the wild. Mobs only spawn in towns. Passive mobs spawn nomally in towns w/ mob spawning. Agressive mobs spawn ONLY from a spawner in a town w/ mob spawning. This way, the economy is not shifted to the nether, and EVERYONE is happy. It would also reduce the lag. There is more wild than there are towns, and even if all towns get mob spawning, wild is still bigger. Supporting Towns: Enzonia Farmcraft Lumeria Catland FatCatLand
I suggest you follow goldenarmour's format, and create a topic where you can add the towns endording this iniciative. I clikced the OMG option by the way, but the reason this was taken away was becouse of lag. You know what i tell you? We need more player to player econ, and that is not possible w/o mobs. Infact, this is not even mc w/o mobs. If lag is the problem, put the server cap back to 200. There will be many people prevented from joining, yes, but at least the ones online will be able to enjoy to fully enjoy the server. And with all ths donations this server gets per month, is the budget too short to improve server perfomace? Honestly i dont know what im talking about becouse i know nothing about computers harware etc... But there must be a way money can by right?
Everyone is acting like Andrew took it out to punish us. Like having all the petitions to bring it back. Mob spawning has alot of broken things. It is suppose to be fixes in 1.3. He said if it is and there are no problems he might bring it back.

i like this idea for the time until mobs are fixed "fingers crossed" i have 3 or 4 spawners in my town that i know of and i am kind of getting sick of getting like 100 chickens stopping to go to the bathroom and coming back only to find them all /butchered or /killall it makes me sad to know that the 100som baby chickens i made will never see it to being a adult that i can kill and harvest my vote is an OMG
Your suggestion is very similar to how it is ("was") set up... Except you want animals to spawn no matter what the flag is. Monsters only spawning from spawners would get you less mobs, too, or get more people complaining about people "hogging" mobs. I don't see this working. :/ And aggressive mobs are currently disabled because they are causing a lot of lag and didn't seem to spawn properly. Adding them back at this time (and maybe even in 1.3) would just increase the lag, no matter how you set them up to spawn. I know people want mobs back (I do, too ... I don't have Nether access), but with the size of our server and the stupidity of mobs, they just cause too much lag. :/ Mojang needs to make them... less laggy, and they need to hurry up about it. lol
