Open Discussion:I came on this morning and instantly went to working out some figures because I melon farming to make money, I farmed to 5 minutes and got 600 melons. 600 melons at current price is $800 in 5 min and $9600 an hour which is a lot less than andrewkm said he wanted ways of getting income between 15k-20k. Even though, melons original price still would only get $14.4k an hour so why were they lowered. I understand there are a few Efficiency 5 unbreaking 3 silk touch 1 tools on the server but there is so few. Also lnspecthergadget told me that he makes around 20k an hour using an efficiency 5 unbreaking 3 silk touch 1 axe on melons. I am sure the new pumpkin price means producernl can make a lot more than that on pumpkin with any efficiency 5 which is more common that the tools required for melons. Also all that is required for pumpkins to make 10k an hour is an efficiency 4 axe whereas melons you require a efficiency 4 silk touch 1 tools to get around the same as pumpkins. Efficiency 4 axes break pumpkin quicker than an efficiency tool break melons and an efficiency 5 axe break pumpkin a lot faster than an efficiency 5 on melons. So in conclusion i see no reason for melons lowered and they should be re-raised to $2.00 or at least raised back to $1.75. Sorry is poorly wrote is 9am here still half asleep.
andrewkm does not choose to make one thing less one thing more he tries to balance out ways of making money and this has made pumpkin make a lot more than melons.
I agree with this. Almost every farming item is being lowered. This isn't really balancing out, this is just lowering the price of everything and screwing all the farm owners pretty much. Plus, considering that you need a 15k+ investment or extremely good luck to get a silk to farm these melons, they should be back up to $2
I agree with this as well. The investment in an unb 4 eff 3 silk 1 dpick is usually more than that of an eff 4 daxe. With this fact stated, it would make sense to keep (whole) melons at their $2 server price. It is good that pumpkins have had a price increase, however, without a silk tool for melons, the slices are only .15 cents each. With 7 slices, give or take, being the average per melon harvested, that is only a $1.05 profit. In conclusion, having to invest in a 15k+ silk tool in order to attain whole melons at the updated $1.50 server price does not compensate as near as the original $2 server price. Just my two cents.
I agree. Pumpkins only require an axe that is so easily obtained or obtained for cheap. In order to make good money from melons you need an eff4 unb3 silk1. As oYsTeR140 said, it is a big investment to get. I think they should go back up to $2.00.
I agree with this. The investment for my Silk Touch pick was not a small one at all. And for melons to make any type of profit at all this tool is needed. Whereas with farming pumpkins, now it actually has a worth. Pumpkins are easily farmed with any Eff IV axe, and now it can actually make somewhat of a profit. (Unlike before) In the end, Melons require more work to get them done, and therefore should have a higher price then most other crops. So I feel they should return the price to $2.00 Ecos.

Agreed, i have spent over 60k in silk touch tools so i can farm melons. Now that they are lowered i feel like a complete waste, and am very confused on how exactly this is "Balancing out" Pumpkins and melons. I feel like those of us that spend hours making money off of melons, or buying the tools required to make a profit are getting cheated. I mean, I know several players that just spend their days sniping money in the lotto and getting richer every 15 minutes, if you wanted to balance things out, why not make ticket prices or something go up? Not lowering melons. I am truly dedicated to this server and will continue to play now that i have cooled off a bit, but i still don't agree with the lowering of melons.
He makes a good point. Why every time someone finds a new way to make money off of crops, crop prices are dropped again so they can't make this money? It seems weird a hardcore economy server doesn't reward hard work and creativity. Why is there this belief that no matter how hard you work to give yourself an advantaged you’re not allowed this advantaged you create yourself?
pumps are now 0.75$ melons 1.50$ so now i can say that this suggestion can have -1 simply because 0.75$ is half of 1.50$ and with melons it takes double the amount of time to farm so now economy is balanced =) i know people say , we worked hard to get silk touch BUT eff V is way harder to get and is obtainable by users selling them , usually they sell it for high prices but for now economy is on the right direction
Now yes i get the thing with eff.5 axes and how they are hard to get for pumpkin farming, but why does that matter? I still don't feel as if us hard working farming who do it for 8 hours a day should have to basically take a pay cut. Seriously i think if prices are staying as is, the lottery should also be evened out a bit because i'm tired of people who make millions in the lotto agreeing with the price changes and fighting to keep them the same just because they don't have to farm all day in order to get money.
this is not true i can chop about 200 pumpkins in the time it takes to chop 20, so its not doubled, i think prices should be raised because there is no absolute way of making money besides mining and excavation.
When he said he wanted to balance the economy I think he was talking about other catigories as well. For example how much money a farmer makes an hour is significantly more than a zombie spawn trapper.
Well here's the thing. Now that 1.4.5 has come out you need forge modloader to install CJB, and macosx is not compatable with it :/. So I can't farm pumpkins. I am forced to farm melons and as Matty said it only makes 10k an hour. I believe Melons need a slight boost, and just saying atm pumpkins make more then melons anyways. And all the mac users out there with fly are screwed cus they can't pumpkin farm anymore. Melons to 1.75 I would be fine with
