Lotto is the worst unless you can guarantee you win. Which you never can. Melons + melon sword is the most effective with the least amount of effort required.
I personally go mining, with an Efficiency 4 Fortune III Pick you can take in 10k an hour on average. It way not be as cost effective as farming, but I find cave diving much more interesting than walking in a straight line and whacking some melons.
A melon sword is a good thing to have in order to make money, but I don't recommend it. Farm pumpkins for now. Its much more accessible than melon farming and you can make about half the profit per hour of melon farming. You could also start doing small loans. This is very risky though but has some earning potential. What I did myself, and im not saying that you should or shouldn't do this, but I bought fly after getting resident. Having fly can make you a lot of money if you are into pumpkin or wheat farming. It is also very useful for building giant farms. I currently make between 12 and 15k an hour farming pumpkins at speed 10 on a good day. Its definitely good for fast money without the worry of a melon sword. Please rate if you found this helpful.
