If I misunderstood I apologise but is the suggesting once we have filed for the first/second rank up then we are automatically forced to rank up once we have the money?
I’m going to say -1 for the hybrid rankup system proposed. I personally think the system we have is fine as it gives the (slowly dying) forums purpose and allows staff members to have more stuff to do. This is also not to mention that two of the primary rankups come with towns that cannot be automatically created and would need staff to do it the traditional way regardless; ironically, those would be rankups 3 and 4 (which this suggestion suggests the auto rankup system starts at) Ultimately, my -1 stems from the fact this was suggested as a hybrid system where the first rank up or two is what we had, then it’s auto after that. For players, especially new players, a hybrid system might get confusing, thus why I’m in more disagreement with it versus one or another.
Respectfully, I think you don't understand all that goes into the different rank applications. Sure, Resident would be easy enough, but that promotion is purposely done on the forums to get players used to submitting applications, which gets more complicated with further ranks. And Resident is the first promotion, so with your suggestion it would be done on the forums anyway. With Mayor and President comes the option of getting a town with your rank, and theres no way to have one command that does everything that needs to be done with those promotions. Picking a town name and town coordinates, and then on staff's end making sure the name and coords aren't already taken, and then actually placing the town. The only way I could see having some kind of auto/in game rank-up system would be if you could do /rankup once you have the money, and then seperately applying for the town on the forums. Which at that point is making the system more complicated than it needs to be. The rank promotions process seems to have been working well all these years, and I don't see a reason to change it up.
Certain ranks require towns to be made and EcoLegend requires a prestige to be added to the users account, having an application system like we do makes it easier to keep track of these things. Prestiges have to be added manually and towns are created in-game, I don't think automating this would work.
Tbh if there was a need or actual argument for /rankup at any point in the last 14 years of ECC, it wouldve been implemented. Havent seen a point before and still dont really see a point now
