In Game Name: D_face012What part of EcoCityCraft is this suggestion for: Main City ServerShort title for your suggestion: Real time for towncontrol+What are you suggesting: Essentially, it’d be a neat idea to add real time to towns. If it’s 10 PM EST, you can set it to your town to move in real time. Why is this a good addition for EcoCityCraft?: It’s a neat, pretty cool addition, I know there is a Bukkit/Spigot plug-in already made for it just not sure if it fits in with our current setup.Other information: Plugin or custom addition: I believe there already is one but can’t find it.One suggestion per form: I Understand.
If we could do this without additional plugins etc it would be cool but if we can't I'm not so sure about it.
Surely with the range of countries everyones from, this would only work for a select number of people?
From the one I saw in my bukkit you don’t set it by timezone, you don’t put in EST, you put in the timezone’s time and it progresses from there.
well if it's purely cosmetic there is no reason you couldn't just put a mod on your client that does that. the only reason to use a command is to make everyone else see your time set I set the time at birdmall because the lighting looks best at night.
It’s a cool feature that allows towns to move time in real life. If we can set towns to be always at night, or always daytime. Why not allow us to toggle time to movement in real time. There are already many bukkit and spigot mods for this feature.
If it’s purely cosmetic why not just put a mod on your client that does that. I don’t understand what your issue (if you have one) is.
I have many issues...none of which pertain to this thread...but here you are asking for a coded feature to track the in game display time to the timezone where you live. That puts stress on server resources to see who is in that area, and then set their times accordingly per tick per player per region where this flag is set. it has a potential to slow down the server and make the game unplayable during initial roll out and could cost real dollars from the server owner to develop if one doesn't exist or adapt to our server if one does exist so that you could have your region look like it does outside your window. I'll admit that's very cool idea! However you can accomplish the same thing on your screen with a cosmetic mod to your client (that I didn't even bother to search for) that sets your display time to match the rtc on your computer and the seasonal fluctuations of light and dark in your area. the money spent to develop the plugin or adapt one that exists would have to come from current projects...like paying to update and debug the source code of our custom coded pieces to the current server implemented version of MC and beyond. the reasoning for not having it set the real server time is...afaik...that server time is system wide, and it regulates growth time for some crops...ie if they are under natural only lighting they will only grow when it is light outside. while we tend give andrew a hard time about updates and bugs he puts quite a bit into the server behind the scenes and doesn't treat implementation like this is a toy server he can just throw shit on and say screw you deal with it never to touch it again. things are trouble shot, researched, patched, and fixed regularly with an eye on stability and performance. he interacts with the server as the owner, not something I've ever seen on another big server. I'm not on staff. I don't code for andrew, and I don't do any other work for him. I have coded and bug hunted on several large programming jobs in my life, so I have an idea of the work that goes into maintaining and developing an active software package. From scratch development requests are not little things for what I have worked on, so I can only imagine, and be horrified by, what they are like for add on packages like a custom minecraft server. So...if you want a purely cosmetic feature and with a search couldn't find a pre-existing server side plugin to provide it, but it's something you want... a. search more for a plug in till you find one or resolve that one does not exist b. find a mod for your client that does what you want for your display happiness c. resign yourself to looking at the time in the regular progression that is the minecraft time display that is my long winded reasoning for my short statement of my opinion that wend "if it's just cosmetic and the server doesn't offer it get a mod for yourself" it's not a dismissal. It's not condescension. it was a serious suggestion to get you what you wanted. and with that...I'm through with this thread.
